Coffee songs

Okay, thank for pointing this out. When I came to the thread, I was rushed for time and didn’t want to read all the posts, even though there weren’t all that many. So I did a quick Firefox page search for ‘Peggy’, got nuthin’, and posted what I posted. ‘Best laid plans…’ etc.

In a way, it doesn’t make any difference, as I wasn’t just nominating that particular song, but the entire album and Peggy Lee’s performance throughout. It really is a landmark recording.

Carly Simon’s You’re So Vain includes the lines:

I had some dreams, they were
clouds in my coffee
clouds in my coffee

Afternoons and Coffeespoons by Crash Test Dummies

Expresso Love by Dire Straits

And of course, Black Coffee in Bed by Squeeze.

I remember a children’s song with these lyrics:

C-O-F-F-E-E, coffee is not for me,
its the drink some people wake up with,
that if makes you nervous is no myth.
Slave to a coffee cup,
they won’t give coffee up!!!

Also there’s a fine rendition of this song by Sarah Vaughn.

Interesting! That looks like it must be another version of the song Kimstu wrote about, but with completely different words. The scansion is identical.

No sugar tonight in my coffee No sugar tonight in my tea No sugar to stand beside me No sugar to run with me Da-un-do-dow dow da-un-do-dow .

Guess Who

“Java Jive,” by the Ink Spots.

If you’re gonna talk about children’s songs, there’sThe Coffee Song from Ralph’s World (Ralph Covert). This one also has C-O-F-F-E-E. There are other versions to link that actually have Ralph in them, but this one is the best recording (from the album).

A 1934 rendition. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5EzQcO3tL8

The Coffee Song by Cream. :stuck_out_tongue:
