Not in Texas.
At least, not in any place I’ve been to in Texas. They give you unsweetened tea and you can put Sweet 'n Low or Sugar or Equal or Splenda or whatever in it.
I remember ordering tea in a restaurant in Arkansas and being given SWEET tea. Oh the gagging.
I remember in high school watching an old boyfriend’s mom make tea. Two quarts of iced tea had a full cup of sugar in it. Ugh! I like sweet drinks, and that was just disgusting. I learned to mix other people’s idea of sweet tea with unsweetened tea for just the right amount of sweetness. Now when I do drink tea, I use Splenda (or other no-cal sweeteners) and always ask for unsweetened to make it to my taste.
Have you ever tried Tab? I know they’re selling it again around here… It was sooo bitter when I tried it as a little kid, you might like it.
