So I heard about Coke C2 - Half the carbs. Hmmm they can only do that by using less sugar! Cool! But then I find out… Oh noooo, everything has to still be sweet as candy. Must add the sweetness back by using disgusting sweeteners. Sucralose has an aftertaste that lingers for hours. Bleah. And many products don’t even warn you that they contain sucralose!
Am I the only one who was hoping for the technology breakthrough of regular Coke with just… less sugar? Sigh. Maybe I should have posted this to the Pit and gone on a right and proper rant.
Just because I would prefer a cola with less sugar does not mean that I do not like pop at all. And since I don’t drink coffee, I need cola to get my USRDA of caffeine.
But you are right. It is very easy. I just continue to drink regular colas and whine about not having a lower sugar cola out there.
I ran into the Coke C2 lady at the grocery store today. She says “half the sugar” and I ask “is there another sweetener?” She replies no and I try it, and yeah, it tastes like Coke, but . . . a little worse than just having less sugar. I read the ingredients and surprised the lady - she had no idea it has aspartame (nutrasweet) in it. Yeah, that 's what it tastes like: Real Coke mixed with diet coke, specially marketed for that atkins nonsense.
Yeah, I think Diet Coke is a pretty good mixer. The taste seems to go well with hard liquor. In fact, when I order a _____ and Coke at bars or restaurants now, the drink which comes out tatses a bit funny to me.
I still prefer Classic Coke as a stand alone drink, and I desparately miss the original (pre New, Classic, Low carb, etc…) Coke that died in the early 80s. It was the best. A little hot in taste, just sweet enough, perfect for drinking straight, over ice (NEW ice, don’t let it melt or sweat first, dammit!), or as a mixer. …sigh…
I hate to do anything nice for you, but…
Have you tried the small bottles of Coke? They have more syrup, or real cane sugar, something at any rate as it used to be.
I’m with you, BoringDad and spoke-. The only way I drink any flavoured soda is at least 1 part soda with 2 parts soda water. I’m sure we’re not the only people in the world who don’t want teeth-rotting sweetness (from sugar or artificial sweeteners) in everything we drink, but the soft-drink industry doesn’t seem to care if there’s a market for people who like less sweet drinks. I mean, wouldn’t it cost them less money to put less sugar in a line of soft drinks?
That’s only because you live in the South, where people believe that The Only Tea is Sweet Tea.
Well, I haven’t tried the C2, mainly because, even though I’m on a low-carb diet, there is still sugar in it. Nope, no can do, folks.
I would have loved to see another sugar-free cola that doesn’t taste like Diet Coke. Diet Coke is fine, but I just don’t like it for my Cuba Libres–they just don’t taste the same with Diet.
I’m another Southerner who doesn’t like sweet tea. I put a little lemon in it and that’s all. I also hate it when the dinner host lets the ice start melting in the glass before pouring the tea. Arg!
there’s a little store, okay, mercado, near me that sells mexican soft drinks. No Coca Cola, but the cola drink they do have is predy nice, with know?
I have noticed the differnt taste in the small bottle of Coke that I can sometimes find here. What’s the deal with that?
Not true, sucrose breath.
If you order tea in a restaurant not only will it be freshly brewed, you will be asked “sweet or unsweet?”. Hint: do NOT reply “sweet”.
