Coke Zero may soon be phased out

I found it tonight when picking up dinner. It’s slightly different but not significantly so. For me, it’s a wash.

If you want to make a “Who dislikes soda?” thread, feel free…but don’t post things like this in threads that are pretty much for fans of said product/thing/etc.

Glad I’m not the only one who hates it. I’m honestly not sure why it’s on the market - I haven’t seen anyone pick it as first choice for a diet soft drink pretty much since Coke Zero came out.

I tried Coke No Sugar at one of those all-in-one Coke dispensers. My initial reaction is it’s definitely different than Coke Zero. I’m not sure what the long-term prognosis is. I may end up drinking more Pepsi Max than I do now, but Coke No Sugar could become my new favorite. (To the accountants at Coke: that’s a net loss.)

Pepsi Max has changed its name to Pepsi Zero Sugar in the United States, by the way. However, they did not change the formula when they changed the name, so it is still awesome. I prefer it to Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, and Pepsi One.

Good to know; I’ll look for it. My local shop must be on the long end of the supply chain, since they’re still selling Pepsi Max.

We can’t get away from it. It has to be stocked in quantity at every debate tournament in the country because the coaches and staff are all addicted to the stuff. <shudder>

Diet Coke is just vile. But I’m really starting to like the new formulation of Coke Xero the more I drink it.

See, now that would’ve been a good idea. Rename it to Xero with an X.

Yeah, that’s my impression too. Coke Zero had a drier, more crisp, taste. It was more refreshing. Coke Zero Sugar is sweeter and less refreshing, IMO… like they put too much syrup in the Coke Zero fountain.

Fountain is not the best way to judge a diet soda for me, though I have also only had the new stuff via fountain. I mainly drank Coke Zero out of a can and it was the best can soda other than Pepsi Max(zero sugar).

I have yet to buy a 12-pack of Coke Zero Sugar, but will when the new school year starts(teacher here). As of yesterday, they still have remnants of Coke Zero at the store, but I did see the new stuff on the shelf as well.

I’m straddling the fence between “it’s a wash” and “too weak.” I’ve blindly gone through about 18 cans of it in 18 days (I drink it in the morning instead of coffee) and the first sip I did notice its “weakness” but after that it’s kind of like, whatever is wet.

I can’t even remember the last time I had regular Coke so there’s no way I could make a comparison. It’s still better than Diet Coke - in a can. Diet Coke from the McDonald’s fountain is its own heavenly creature

Agreed, it’s not unpalatable-y sweet to me, but I did prefer the original taste. It nicely dovetails with my desire to reduce my overall consumption, so guess I have a reason to drink less, but still drink it occasionally, or in cocktails.

I didn’t drink it out of a fountain, I was just using that as a comparison. I’ve drank both out of cans (I have had Coke Zero in a fountain, but not Coke Zero Sugar yet).

I only drink pop from fountains and bottles. Cans just don’t taste as good (not that I’d refuse a cold one). I wonder how much of our preferences are due to that?

I was hesitant to welcome our new Coke Zero Sugar overlords but having tried it, I think it is much closer to Coke Classic than Coke Zero was. For those that are complaining that it’s too sweet, have you tried a regular Coke lately?

Yes, I have. My husband still drinks regular Coke, and I sipped some last week. Way too sweet, a sip was enough.

I never wanted Coke Zero to taste more like original Coke. Diet Coke always made me wish it tasted better; Coke Zero never did that.

I may or may not have tried it. A fountain at a place I eat lunch which used to have Coke Zero was labeled Coke Zero Sugar but the drink I got tasted no different at all so I am thinking that for now only the label has changed and syrup was still Coke Zero.

Some of us drink Diet Coke or Coke Zero precisely because it’s less sweet than regular Coke.

Raises hand. I prefer diet to zero. It has a “dryer” and somewhat less cloyingly sweet taste to it. No idea what happened to me, as I agree that zero tastes pretty darn close to the real stuff (and I’ll be curious to taste the new version, if it tastes even closer), but over time I’ve developed a taste such that I prefer Diet Coke to regular Coke.

Finally tried the canned version.

It’s good. I will miss Coke Zero because of some weird principles I have(why lose it when it was great?), but honestly, this is almost identical. I’d have to drink both next to each other to tell the difference.
