Same here. I’m not much for Deit Coke unless it has cherry and/or vanilla flavoring but Coke Zero is so vile I won’t even take a sip!
I really think it tastes different, and I like both Diet and Zero.
I really liked Coke II, but there is no getting that anywhere anymore.
To me, that stuff is even worse than Coke Zero.
I haven’t had Coke II since they called in New Coke, although I remember sorta liking it – I was too young to understand what the furor was all about.

I switched from Coca-Cola Classic to Pepsi One. This is mainly due to its free availability at work and a good bittersweet taste. They don’t have Coke Zero or Splenda-based Diet Coke in the coolers. It also comes in a nice black can, not a white or pastel can.
Splenda Diet Coke ('round here) has only a very small pastel yellow dot that says “Sweetened with Splenda” to distiguish it. It’s still too sweet (IMHO).
Coke Zero is OK.
I woulda like to have actually tried TAB, which was Diet Coke but with saccharin instead of cow urine.
This thread is not that old, and seems to have sparked fresh discussion. I’m going to leave it open.
Out of curiousity, does anyone know how well Coke Zero is selling? Which is to say, is it still going to be around a few years from now, or do I need to start stocking up now?
I once purchased Coke Zero because the vending machine I was using did not have Diet Coke. Then the promotion for Coke Zero caught my eye. “Real Coke Taste. And Nothing.” I thought to myself “And nothing?? You mean, as in no caffeine??” That indeed seemed to be the case with what I bought. Since it was not suitable for my intended purpose (waking the h— up) I tracked down another vending machine and bought a Diet Coke.
My taste buds have bonded with Diet Coke. I don’t care for regular Coke. So I am not too interested in Coke Zero.
I went through the beverages aisle of the supermarket looking for the Splenda-sweetened version of Coca-Cola, but was overwhelmed by the number of varieties available (Coca-Cola, Cherry Coke, Diet Coke, Diet Coke with Lime, Diet Coke with Lemon, Coke Zero, Coca-Cola C2, etc.). I think they’ve take the concept of “brand extension” way too far.
I never even liked regular Coke, but I love Diet Coke. It’s the only cola I actually like. I know a lot of other people who really like Diet Coke - but none of us particularly like regular Coke. So I guess Coke Zero is Diet Coke for people who actually like Coke, those sickos.
To me, Coke Zero tastes a lot less diety than Diet Coke, or even Diet Coke with Splenda. Sadly I can still taste a difference between Coke Zero and regular Coke, although if I am eating something, the difference is a lot less noticeable. I can taste the difference between Sprite and Sprite Zero too. Unfortunately, I will never be one of those people who like the diet version of soda better than the regular kind. I just can’t understand those people.
You would be if you simply stopped drinking the sugar kind and switched to the diet kind exclusively. I was a Coke drinker for years. I finally said that it had to stop and I wasn’t allowed to have non-diet pop. It took a while, and now Diet Coke is my favorite food, along with cauliflower.
Er, thereby proving that I have weird taste. But others will report the same thing. If you don’t give yourself any choice, you will adapt.
Diet Coke is a foul abomination, an unutterable heresy that is a blight upon this Earth and an affront to all that is right with Cola beverages.
Coke Zero isn’t that bad- it’s the closest thing to a Diet Cola that doesn’t taste completely undrinkable, but given a choice I’ll go with Vanilla Coke, which hardly anyone else likes, meaning I don’t have to share.
yup, it is far better. It is made with different blends of artificial sweetenerss
One of the main reasons we are seeing this proliferation of similar products is companies are competing for shelf space. The more variations you can cook up, the more feet of shelf space you can hog, and the more product you move.
Coke has salesmen that go around to grocery chains with the sole mission os convincing the buyers that “Diet Cherry C2 with aspertame” is going to move better than “Diet Lemon Pepsi with sucralose” so you should allot us more shelf space.
The fight for what you see in the store is one of the most closely fought in all of captialism.
Precisely. Which is why I will probably never buy Diet Coke ever again.
