Colbert on The Late Show: Himself, or His Persona?

When Colbert takes over Late Night, will he be hosting the show as himself, or in-character as his persona?

According to this article,

Makes sense to me - his right-wing schtick was getting worn anyway.

his right wing schtick is left wing snark.

Why would he be doing it in character? Well, OK, why would he be doing it in THAT character*? For the Daily Show and Colbert Report, it makes sense, for Late Show, it wouldn’t.

  • I’d be amused if he did it in character as Phil Ken Sebben…

But in a related bit of news, Dave Letterman has said he will continue playing the character of “Dave Letterman” after his retirement.

Of course it is, but it’s still become tiresome to me. Even tho I’ll probably never watch The Late Show (I only watch Colbert and the Daily Show on reruns the next day) I’m glad Colbert has moved on.

I’m totally with you - and I’m especially annoyed with the audience worship. I hate having to waste time listening to the chanting before each show. I’ll be glad to see the last of the set, which I never liked, and see some fresh Stephen. He’s been tied to this character too long, and he’s too talented to stay in a rut just because it’s a successful one.
