That segment was brilliant! One of the best Colbert’s ever done. Although, I can’t help but think it would be improved if, instead of real commentators, Colbert had used actors scripted to play along with him. Then the fictional military and economic advisors could have proposed equally mad solutions to his crazy scenarios.

General: Well, Stephen, I really don’t see it as a problem, for two reasons. You see, for much of the lunar cycle these Congresspersons and Senators would be fully functional human beings. Moreover, they would be aware of their lycanthropy and would naturally sequester themselves away from the terrified, vulnerable populace at times when the moon is full.

And, on those rare occasions when someone like, say, Senator McConnell, is unable to make it down to his sealed underground dungeon and manacle himself to the walls in chains of unbreakable silver before transmogrifying into a carnivorous hellbeast, breaking out of the Capitol and going on a kill crazy rampage to tear and slash at innocent civilians, he would be put down by our security services armed with silver bullets. So it’s a problem that solves itself. Personally, I’m more afraid of the Koalapox.

The Onion does stuff like this quite regularly and to great effect.
