Cold Mountain book/movie

Saw this film last night, read the book last year. Excellent book, excellent movie. The movie stays somewhat true to the story but the differences do not ruin anything. Has anyone else read the book/seen the movie? Comments? I’d recommend either to anyone.

I agree…went in expecting to be somewhat dissapointed…after reading this great book a few months ago. I really enjoyed the movie. I believe it will win best picture this year. I was very impressed with how well, and how much, of the book’s details were adapted to the screen…very good job in every aspect. The casting and acting were very good as well…was somewhat skeptical about Rene Z playing such a strong character, but she pulled it off very well…and should win best supporting actress for it. Jude Law and Nicole Kidman, should also be nominated for this. The movie has it all, drama/emotional content, action, humor, love-story, beautiful scenery/cinematography, history, etc…

I saw it on Christmas day. I enjoyed the book and felt the movie was pretty faithful. Several scenes were cut out(the Inn, the revenge on the guy who set inman up) others edited together (I remember a bit long between death of the deserters and the Goat Woman)

I was glad they kept the ending, and changed some of the scenes to make them more realistic(some of the gunfights, particulary the last one.). I was also pleasently surprised by the battle scene they showed at the beginning, as well as working stobard in there.

Just saw the film today. Wonderful.

But, seeing Jack White show up and sing really threw me…

I’m not complainin’.

I hated the ending of the book, so if they kept it in the movie I guess I won’t be seeing it.

I didn’t want to start a whole new thread on this.

Saw the movie and had a simple question.

When Teague yells at Ada/Kidman about Ruby/Zellweger

“I know she’s in your butter, I know she is in your butter”

Is he implying lesbianism? Was that in the book

I felt that the movie was an improvement over the book. The pacing was tighter, and I have a low tolerance for lyricism.

jimmmy, I don’t think lesbianism was implied. I felt Teague was just warning Ada that Ruby was making a good living off Ada’s property and was not returning enough. Rather that Ruby was taking advantage of Ada.

That being said, I do not believe I have come across that particular idiom before.
