The Spy Who Came In From the Cold
Another good one is White Nights
I can’t believe I forgot that one too! I’m so glad you liked it. I love your posts in this thread though I hadn’t had a chance to specifically reply to them. Special kudos for mentioning The Tailor of Panama and Citizen X!
Not really a “Cold War” film, but “THE THIRD MAN” captures post war Europe (Austrai, yorn between East and West) perfectly. Another one (rarely seen)-“THE BILLION DOLLAR BRAIN”-about a crazed Texas millionaire, who tries to set of an anti communist coup in Latvia.
Thread #292 where I come in to say something and discover spoke- just said it.
I got one!

Would other Dopers consider Gray Lady Down a Cold War flick?
On the one hand, it’s based on Cold War sub patrol patterns and submariners. I like that the story avoids going hot, as so many of the other films involving subs that have been mentioned do.
On the other hand, it’s just a thinly disguised, and Hollywooded-up, version of the Squalus disaster and rescue.
There’s the whole Hitchcock set: North by Northwest, Topaz, and Notorious (I’m not sure about the last one, though).
Great section idea!

Thanks everyone. I’ll be cutting and pasting a list from here, and then seeing which titles we have in the store. I’ll post back here when I have a list of what’s going in the section. Thanks again for your help!
If you’re doing Harry Palmer stories, don’t forget Billion Dollar Brain, which has some great scenes with Oscar Homalka as Colonel Stok. Plus Karl Malden AND Ed Begley. A nice and fitting end to the trilogy.
Is it too late? I haven’t seen these films listed:
Twilight’s Last Gleaming - A renegade USAF General takes over a nuclear missile silo and threatens to start World War III unless his demands are met
Strategic Air Command - Jimmy Stewart flies bombers for the SAC
