I might add “The King of Hearts” (Roi de Coeur), mainly in French but starring English actor Alan Bates.

ETA: Oops, I guess “A” means “first half of the decade.” My mistake.

No problem. It’ll be up later today. Great movie, BTW.

Some great flicks back then. My votes: Sink the Bismarck, The Guns of Navarone (I even had the playset, back in the day), Lawrence of Arabia, Dr. Strangelove, Seven Days in May and Fail-Safe.

I really ought to see The Longest Day and Zulu.

Spartacus, I have to admit, felt dated and goofy when I last saw it.

My main issue with it was Tony Curtis.

Again, in the had I only one vote category, I would have gone The Longest Day. But this is the one list where I doubt I could find a single movie I wouldn’t watch again.

Here’s how the top five looked a little while ago:

The Longest Day 17 58.62%
The Great Escape 17 58.62%
Dr. Strangelove 17 58.62%
Lawrence of Arabia 16 55.17%
The Guns of Navarone 13 44.83%

I like most of them myself. Good decade for war flics.

I’d like to have voted for 633 Squadron, but I haven’t been able to find a copy to watch. The few scenes I’ve found on you tube looked good.

But I saw the remake with Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, and that was a pretty good film.

Did that have a different title? Do you have an IMDb link to it? If so, we can add it to overflow.

It was a 1970s film. But it wasn’t a contemporary war. One that was a long time ago. And far, far away.

:frowning: Sadly Zulu is getting a short chamber Boxer Henry point 45 caliber beatdown.

“…and a bayonet, Sir, with some guts behind it” - Colour Sergeant Bourne

I’d say that Zulu should have no shame at the moment:

Et viola!

If I have yet to say so directly, terentii, you are just too cool. This whole War Movies project would be a dismal failure without your contributions.

In the words of Ernest and Julio Gallo, thank you for your support!

I could have sworn that was Retro Bartles & Jaymes Commercial Thank you for your support

Gracias . Aunque mucha gente prefiere los subtítulos, me gusta que la película fue doblada al Inglés .
