I’m not deciding for anyone, merely espressing my opinion that disclosing the country from which one may or may not be posting does not expose them to a significant risk. You disagree. I get that.

I would not have posted ANYTHING about where the IP address originates if Aldebaran had not made such a big deal out of posting from “a tent in the ME”. Not only did he have this in his location, he referred to it in at least one post I knew, from IP checks that I had made on him before, that his IP didn’t come from the Middle East. I figured that since he was claiming something about his location, it was fair game to talk about…especially if he was lying about it. If he hadn’t claimed anything about his location, I wouldn’t have posted what I did.
As it turns out, I misread the IP information and THAT IP didn’t originate from Belgium, but the country it does originate from is close to it. I’d be more specific, but some of y’all seem to be paranoid. At any rate, his IP didn’t originate from the Middle East, though possibly he DOES live in a tent somewhere.
As for my not following this thread with every waking moment, I had some minor toe surgery on Tuesday, so I’m pretty much staying off the computer, as I’m in some pain and sitting for long periods of time makes it worse. On the other hand, I now have a technicolor toe, it’s black and blue and green and yellow and red and purple. I’m missing orange, though. I won’t be online much until it quits hurting. I’m also involved in negotiations to buy a book shop (which is something like an alcoholic buying a bar), which is taking up a great deal of my time.
For those who care, MY real location is south central Fort Worth, Texas, USA.
Indeed that’s a remote possibility, but I’ve read weirder things on this very board. And besides, one could construct a number of other unlikely scenarios. Also, I would note that there are very few posters insiting on not disclosing their country of origin. If someone is adamant on this, maybe he has good reasons to do so. Or maybe not, but still it isn’t up to us to choose for him. 
Maybe I’m wrong and I missed some important posts about it, but I assumed until now that he wasn’t really lying in the sense that the “tent in the ME” wasn’t intended to be taken seriously. So at least was my assumption.
Wow! Best of luck with that! And don’t sweat this stuff too much. I don’t think anyone believes that you would intentionally reveal people’s locations. An IP address can’t do that reliably anyway because of proxies. Take care of that toe.

Well, I think another thing that set Aldebaran apart from all the rest was his insistence on assessing the other people on the thread by where THEY were posting from. He stereotyped and made assumptions based on the posters’ locations all the time, without shame, and was smug when called on it. And yet he refused to let us know what his heritage was. There’s a huge difference between Egypt and Jordan and Morocco and Saudi Arabia even though they’re all Arab countries. If the OP insists that it doesn’t matter, I suspect even more that he is not an Arab at all, just a European Muslim a few generations removed from his roots.
Again, if the OP so wanted to avoid being seen through the filter of his nationality, he should not have so insisted on impugning others because of theirs.

Seeing as Aldebaran seems to have taken the (good) advice to give it a rest, I don’t see how keeping this thread open as a venue for yet another Liberal-centered shit slinging match is productive in any way.
