One of my freinds phoned me yesterday, in tears because she was so angry. She had phoned a friend of hers early in the morning and told her “Turn your TV on! Something horrible has happened in New York!!”
“Oh, the World Trade thing,” the friend said.“I watched it for 5 minutes. It was boring so I went back to bed.”
WTF??
She said that she didn’t give a shit because it happened in the states and she didn’t know anybody in NY. “It doesn’t affect me, so why should I care? Gee, I hope when I go on vacation next week the flight isn’t delayed or cancelled, that would suck.”
Uh, it’s called having some freaking sympathy for people, you twit. I get to see her at work today. Hope I can restrain myself from smacking her in the head.
I think that she should have a little respect for human life. You should let her know that you think she is being very cold hearted. Maybe she doesn’t really understand the situation. Or maybe she is just a bitch. You never know.
Your friend could have built up a defensive mechanism against this terrible situation. It might affect her very
much and she is pretending that unless it affects her
directly, then she will just have to drop the extras.
If she is so concerned about catching a flight somewhere, maybe this will allow her to realize that each flight is
precious and so are all the lives on the planes even hers.
Everyone is affected by this tragedy, but not everyone will
react the same way to it. Sometimes the ones who are most affected will show bizarre behavior because it hurts so much.
