SDMB’s money problems are solved! Start picking that new mega-server and matched hamster team out now Lynn!
Based on this article and this Pit thread used undies are a big business.
I’m collecting used underwear donations. Based on the article the hot sellers seems to be for unwashed undies with a “history”. Don’t be shy as there seems to be a buyer for every style of underwear from the underwear of big hairy bear guys to older librarian ladies to working mothers to well… there’s just no telling what someone might be interested in and be willing to pay for so ante up!
The rules are that:
1: It needs to be in reasonable (not tattered) shape.
2: It needs to have a small biography describing it so the prospective bidder can be assured of it’s “provenance” or history. Possible suggestions are descriptions of your body type, what you do for a living and how they served you for better or worse.
3: No kid’s underwear (cut off is age is under age 13) unless they belong to you, and you are a kid 13 or over, posting on SDMB.
Underwear or lingerie with exceptional histories (like RickJays) may need to to be in a special category (and container) by itself.
Cmon’ lets get some donations. Think of the poor, overworked hamsters!
Ebay people are nuts. Last year, on a whim, I sold 6 pairs of used boxers there. I was about to throw them away…but figured I’d give it a try. I stressed throughout the auction that they were CLEAN, and in decent shape, I had just outgrown them.
I got $29 for 6 pairs. More than they cost when I bought them new.
I don’t really want to think about how they were used … but I’ll take 30 bucks for used underwear any day of the week.
Much as I’d like to support such a worthy cause, if I gave up my underpants, with or without biographies (?!?!?), I wouldn’t have and good dust rags left!
Typical FCM Underpants Biography:
Bought by the bag at Wal Mart
Worn till torn or elastic sprung
Consigned to rag bag
People would pay money for that?? It’s a strange world…
