FSU has followed through and filed suit against the ACC to void the Grant of Rights and withdrawal fee. I don’t see this as a “reasonably certain way out” for FSU at all, but the die has been cast.
Too much work
Top 2 SEC
Top2 Big10
As I said, I was and remain skeptical. We’re just fucked. Bernie can rot in hell as far as I’m concerned. He’s the one that turned down the SEC back in the late 80’s when they (finally) offered. We should be close to celebrating our 35th year in conference.
Last night in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl, Kansas beat UNLV 49-36 in a highly entertaining game. KU quarterback Jason Bean threw for six TDs in his last college game.
The margin might have been more if the Jayhawks had played with some discipline. During the season, they were called for just 55 penalties in 12 games. Last night they were flagged 18 times for 210 yards, including four personal fouls.
I attended the Quick Lane Bowl at Ford Field and it was neat. We had free tickets and I landed parking for $11, not a bad deal.
Minnesota beat Bowling Green.
My son enjoyed the game a lot as well.
I really expected USC to phone it in like they normally do for ‘lesser’ bowl games. I mean, who cares? The QB done quit, no conference championship to represent, crappy season after all. Pretty much everyone had written them off.
Imagine my surprise when they showed up with a first-time starting QB, some defensive guys that learned to tackle in the last couple weeks and played pretty well against a motivated and ranked opponent.
And that QB didn’t do too shabby. Miller Moss throws Holiday Bowl-record 6 TD passes, USC beats No. 16 Louisville 42-28 (msn.com)
Turned out to be a pretty good evening.
I’ve attended that bowl and enjoyed it back when it was the Motor City Bowl. They do a nice job.
It was fun. About 30,000 there, which isn’t bad since neither team is a Michigan team. We had free tickets, enjoyed the whole thing.
How many kids will be scarred for life when the Pop-Tart was murdered in the toaster?
“Mommy, they just KILLED Strawberry the Pop-Tart!”.
“And they’re EATING HIM!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!”
“WHY?? Are my Pop-Tarts alive?? YOU MURDERED THEM, TOO!!!”
“WAHHHHHHHHHH!!”
Extremely entertaining Gator Bowl. Well, at least the 4th quarter.
In the last quarter, there were four turnovers and 42 points. Clemson scored a TD with 17 seconds left to beat Kentucky 38-35.
Some of the memes running around about Ohio State being scared of a big block M on a helmet are pretty damn funny.
Note for those unfamiliar: The Missouri M and the Michigan M are identical except one is outline and one is filled in.
Watching the Orange Bowl, it looks like Florida State mentally decided to not bother showing up after getting dropped from the playoffs.
Or maybe the powers that be knew what they were doing, when they excluded FSU.
Well, there were like 25 FSU players who opted out of the game. I get why they decided to, but the team doesn’t get to moan about not making the CFP anymore.
So, when the committee decides on the bowl matchups, are they aware of which players will not be participating? Because it certainly affects the quality of the matchups.
No - players tend to opt out only when they’re not in a playoff game. It used to be extremely rare and got a ton of publicity and outrage. Now players who already have high name-recognition but aren’t playing a playoff game and are entering the draft will opt out.
I’m not aware of any CFP players opting out.
Good call.
So far, through 10 years of the CFP, not a single player has intentionally opted out to preserve his body for the draft.
As an FSU fan watching the debacle, it will be interesting to see if the 13 team playoff really eliminates the opt outs.
I’d like to tie the NIL money to actually playing bowl games. At least if they fake an injury, they’ll also be faking it to the NFL
I was thinking the same thing this week when I started seeing all the FSU opt outs. If the bowls want full participation, they’re going to have to sweeten the pot for the players themselves. Offer full insurance policies for injuries, and payouts for playing.
