College Football 2024

My Hoosiers exceeded my wildest hopes by even making the playoffs this year. Thank you, guys.

Penn State making mincemeat out of SMU (28 - 0 halftime). Upholding the Big 10’s honor after Indiana was dusted? Nah, just out for the win.

They had a better than decent year. What I don’t like is that now there are several articles coming out by a lot of the usual suspects (I saw one by Kirk Herbstreit) saying that Indiana shouldn’t have been there and that the committee got it wrong. I’m sure those calls will only get louder with what appears likely to be a blowout by Penn State against SMU. In a sense, the people making that argument are correct. The SMUs and Indianas of the college football world shouldn’t be there. Of course neither should this years Miami, Alabama, Ole Miss, or South Carolina teams, which are the names typically brought up as teams that should have been there instead. The real issue is that the best four or so teams are just that much better than the teams that are ranked in the 11 to 15 or so range. A blowout in that situation, especially in a playoff when the top ranked teams are a lot less likley to be slacking off than they might in the regular season, are bound to happen. The mistake wasn’t that Indiana wasn’t really a deserving #10, or that SMU wasn’t really a deserving #11. The mistake was in thinking that a #10, 11, or 12 ranked team has a chance against a #2, 3, or 4 ranked team when those higher ranked teams are really trying and putting forth their best effort. Am I saying it will never happen? No. But if it does, it’s almost certainly due to luck, not because the lower ranked team was actually better than the higher ranked team.

So far, the playoffs have been… yawn.

Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss coach, agrees with you. Kiffin was very vocal about his team being left out while both SMU and Clemson got into the playoffs.

Funny! Because “Lane Kiffen” is an Anagram for “Fucking Asshole”

(maybe I don’t understand what an “Anagram” is)

Tennessee getting routed right now. There go my hopes of a UT vs UT playoff game.

I remember my thread about Kiffin from a few years ago

That was a painful re-read.

If I see the news right, at least The Rose Bowl will be a proper match-up. Oregon V Ohio State. (I been drinking since Thanksgiving)

Almost like the good old days.

You see the news correctly. Since the Rose Bowl is a quarter-final game this year (side note: there are rumors that, when the CFP contracts are renegotiated after next season, the Rose Bowl is going to ask to stay out of the semi-finals rotation so it can always be on January 1), the Big Ten champion is automatically assigned to it, and it just so happens that Ohio State is in the other Rose Bowl spot in the bracket.

and then firing an unpaid intern for 'deflating the footballs."

quote from the OP of the linked thread about Lane Kiffin.

FTR, the Tom Brady “Deflate Gate” saga happened in 2016.

Here’s the article, for those who don’t want to go back to the thread and dig for the link:

Hate that guy. Always Fails Upward.

Watched a 5-hour Marathon 6-OT game earlier. It was pretty sloppy and not much fun. Toledo wins by 2 over Pitt.

Kansas State trailed by 17 in the third quarter to Rutgers, but came back to win 44-41.

Georgia Tech and Vandy was starting to get a little out of hand till Mother Nature put a stop to that nonsense with Biblical rain. On hold for now.

I don’t recall seeing that many Personal Foul flags in such a short time in the late 3rd and early 4th. I wasn’t using a scorecard, but I’m pretty sure a couple guys got overlooked for ejection.

Vegas Bowl was a good watch. As a Trojan fan, it took me from cautious optimism, to despair, to hope, to dread of certain failure to adulation! Can’t tell you how much I had to drink during this Epic.

A great game!

If SC could have managed the last few minutes of the earlier games in the season, and pulled out the win like they did in Vegas, they would be up against Oregon for the Championship!

It’s being reported that the Sugar Bowl is being postponed to tomorrow following last night’s deadly attack in New Orleans.

Now confirmed - game moved to Thursday night

ASU is trampling Texas after falling behind early with game day jitters. It’s 24-24 with Arizona out-gaining Texas 2 to 1 and the same in time of possession.
