College Football 2024

ESPN College Gameday was at Happy Valley before the Penn State/Ohio State game. Jason Kelce was part of the Gameday crew. As he was walking through the crowd, somebody yelled “Kelce, how does it feel that your brother is a faggot for dating Taylor Swift?” Kelce took a few more steps, then turned around, grabbed somebody’s cell phone, and smashed it to the ground. Assumedly it was the phone of the guy who yelled the slur.

My Indiana Hoosiers improved to 9-0 with a 47-10 blowout of Michigan State in East Lansing.

Our last three games of the regular season are against Michigan, Ohio State, and Purdue. If we take at least two out of those three, it’s hard to argue against putting us in the College Football Playoff, which is something I never thought would ever, ever happen.

However, Ohio State owns the largest winning streak against us that anyone has over anybody, so.

Michigan and Purdue are currently unranked. If they beat those two and lose to Ohio State, I’m not sure why their ranking would necessarily go up from the number 13 it is now.

Also they haven’t yet beaten a team whose record is above .500 now.

South Carolina dusts off Texas A&M, handing the Aggies their second loss overall and further muddling the top of the SEC standings ( five teams have one conference loss). Very satisfying to watch.

The first College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings will be revealed at 7 pm ET on Tuesday. Fortunately, there will be nothing else newsworthy that day.

The mock rankings I just saw had 4 teams from the Big 10, 4 from the SEC, and 1 each from the ACC, Big 12, Mountain West, and Independents.

Clarification: the show starts at 7. Expect about a half hour of talking heads before the rankings are released probably around 7:30, followed by more analysis and probably a projection of the playoff bracket based on the rankings.
Note that next week’s rankings will be delayed by about two hours because ESPN has a college basketball game at 7.

Pat McAfee has made College Gameday nearly unwatchable.

9-0 #5 Miami is trailing 28-16 to a very unfancied Georgia Tech in the fourth quarter.

Now it’s final. Ga Tech wins 28-23.

Apparently it’s #4 Miami, not #5.

For a couple of more days, anyway.

Amen! I find his schtick when he riles up the crowd for the pick of the gameday game to be unbearable. And for goodness sake, keep your freaking shirt on!

The 4th time was the charm. Fourth time highly-ranked frauds Miami Hurricanes should have lost to a much lower-ranked team. And today Georgia Tech finally did dust them.

#3 Georgia goes down to Ole Miss. Big day for Georgia Tech fans.

This was a day of “I wish they all could lose”, buts its going pretty well.

But I really wish Bama and LSU could still both lose!

Second time this season Georgia Tech has exposed a team from Florida as a fraud.

Buckeye contenders stomp Hoosier pretenders.

Cal wins Big Game!

The Kansas Jayhawks were ranked in the Top 25 before the season started. But a series of late-game collapses derailed their season early, and 3 weeks ago their record was 2-6. But since then they have defeated 3 ranked teams in a row, the first time in NCAA history that a sub .500 team has done so. Yesterday they took down Colorado 37-21, stopping CU’s 4-game winning streak. If they can beat Baylor next week, they will be bowl eligible.

KU’s wins over the top-tier teams in the Big 12 has thrown that race into chaos. With 1 game to play, there are 4 teams tied at 6-2, and 5 more that are 5-3. Arizona State and Iowa State can clinch a spot in the championship game by winning next weekend, while all others need to win and get help from other teams.

I’ve been watching Texas A&M football since 1967. They never fail to disappoint. Beat top ten teams, loose to unranked teams.
