DKW wrote that the guy who got assaulted “was under no obligation to dive into the sewer”. That the guy who got assaulted “cannot allow himself to be goaded”. “He needs to have a thicker skin than that,” you see, sure as there were a number of things he could’ve done that “would’ve allowed him to keep the moral high ground.”
I believe, in general, that when someone gets assaulted, we should routinely pair any advice to the victim with a quick reminder that the scum who actually committed assault should of course face criminal charges, adding that the victim had every right to engage in legal behavior and the assailant should be punished accordingly.
I’d say that if a man sexually assaulted a woman and somebody lectured the victim on her behavior. I’m saying it now because a woman assaulted a man and somebody lectured the victim on his behavior.
Assault and a victim defending themselves is obviously a valid scenario, but two people fighting is also one. Mixon definitely appeared, at least to me, to be happily engaged in the confrontation and happy to knock Molitor out. To me, this was two people fighting and who cast the first stone isn’t that important.

Except their different treatment by the legal system. Yes he’s a man but she repeatedly instigated and the DA treated it as if she was blameless.

I saw the video and my first question was why wasn’t Amelia Molitor charged with assault. She initiates physical contact. Mixon starts to walk away, she says something, he turns back, she pushes him, he lunges at her without touching her then backs off and she slaps him. He then lays her out.
This is, I think, a very reasonable question. Given that she started the whole thing, why was he even punished in the first place?
