College World Series Champs!!!

**Go Rice! **

Rice University, right here in muggy, er, lovely Houston Texas won the NCAA Baseball College World Series two games to one after thumping Stanford like a ripe cantaloupe on Monday night, 14-2. Woohoo! Rice has the lowest enrollment of any NCAA Div I school (2700 undergrads.) This is Rice’s first national championship in any sport. (Stanford has 84  )

I was at a bar in the Village (1 mile west of campus) on Monday, and everyone was going nuts. Especially me. It was so much fun. I nearly screamed myself hoarse during the 7 run 6th inning, when we broke the game wide open. For the first time since the 1994 MLB strike, I found myself seriously interested in a game of baseball.

There’s a parade in downtown Houston for the team this Thursday at 11, and Dubya has personally invited them for a visit to the White House!

Anyone else watch the game? Anyone go to Nebraska?
This thread is a day late thanks to my flaky internet access.

Caught this thread a little late, so I’m bumping it. I’m nearly a Rice-student-by-proxy: I went to UT, and now go to Baylor College of Medicine, which is closely allied with Rice. So I’m sending out my congratulations. I suppose it’s Rice’s biggest victory ever. I was at their now-second biggest victory, when they beat Texas IIRC in 1995 at Rice Stadium, in driving rain. I wasn’t cheering that night. We drove back to Austin that night, through torrential rain. But still, I always root for the Owls (unless they are playing Texas). Even after they beat Texas up in the semis…

BTW, do I perhaps know you, neuroman? Give me an email sometime…

Go Rice! Way to keep the championship in Texas!
