Colonization question.

Are the Great Lakes navigable in the new version in the Americas map?

Sorry, which map do you mean?

On ‘Custom Game’, the game offers me:

  • A New World
  • the Caribbean

On ‘Custom Scenario’, the game offers me:

  • Northwest Passage
  • South America
  • Western Hemisphere (huge)
  • Western Hemisphere
  • WBQuickSave (whatever that is)

I haven’t played it yet. I presumed there’d be a generic Americas map of some sort like in the original version.

Oh, OK.

Western Hemisphere covers both North and South America.
Boats are used to transport to and from Europe (and occasionally fight!), and there isn’t a navigable Great Lake system.

Is the Western Hemisphere map significantly large in terms of squares than in the original Colonization? I love the original, still play it but would love a larger game map.

Strangely the maps don’t seem to differ much in size.
The main change seems to be how many Europeans you face (i.e. more on Huge maps)

That’s a pity. I don’t know then if I’ll be purchasing it. Thanks for your replies glee.

I bought the original game and enjoyed it.
When the new game was announced recently, I dusted off the old game, found a computer it would run on and played it.

Having done that, I felt some improvements were necessary - and I believe the new game has them!
So I commend it to you.

(If you want to ask more questions, I’ll answer them. I did post a Colonisation blog or two here, so you could look at those…)

Ok I’ll give it a go. What do you think were the most needed improvements that are realised in the new iteration.

  • better graphics
  • game displays which Indian villages you’ve entered and what they want to trade
  • Wagon Trains don’t stop when they enter a Settlement
