I heard 'Chicago’s Color My World yesterday, and it reminded me of the times that the ‘Color me ____’ phrase was popular. The earliest example I could think of was the funny car Color Me Gone (late '60’s ?). Does anyone know the origins of this phrase, or of an earlier usage?
Just a quick note about this. in the late 1950s, there was a fad of “adult coloring books” (not X-rated, but satirical in nature). They showed advertising men, fashion models and politicians, etc. (“this is the ad man’s liver. Color it yellow.”)
There was also a maudlin romantic pop song on this theme, "My Coloring Book" by (I think) Dusty Springfield. A Google search on the lyrics for that would enlighten but I have to get going.
There was a color me bad phase…
Thanks, Doc, I’ll check it out.
