Colorado legalized it!

So are Dopers (hee hee) from CO and WA allowed to openly post about smoking the funky skunky now?

Are you high?

Wasn’t it a ballot initiative? That would imply that keeping it criminalized is actually what the population wants.

How that happened in Oregon, though, I have no idea.

Wow, I am glad you asked that, because I had COMPLETELY misread what happened in 1997.

An attempt to recriminalize possession of small amounts of cannabis was turned down by Oregon voters in 1997.
So..yay!!

Just don’t smoke it in public near a school.

So currently, it’s all good. Whew!

Still surprised as hell that it wasn’t the first state to try to legislate it. Oregon already has in place some serious codes for even restaurant workers and bar servers; you must be licensed by the state to do any of that. So it seems to me that taking over the distribution of weed would be a walk in the park.

What makes you think that? The twisted “commerce clause” allows them to get involved without any interstate stuff, and they are already interfering and arresting the medical MJ cases.

I tried to get high on life, but eventually I built up a tolerance. Before I knew it, I was siezing two days, three days, a whole week just to cop the same buzz.

And babies smile like crazy after you blow a couple of bong hits in their face.

Dude, can you score me some weed and a small baby?

Hey, freebase baby.

The baby market is a lil dry. :stuck_out_tongue:

True dat.

Also, I think more people will decide to start a “garden”.

Do you live under a mushroom?

Wasn’t aware of the clause. Are these arrests busting people with a legit prescription? Or dispensaries selling product recreationally under the radar?

“Where are you going on vacation?”
“To visit Uncle Herb and Aunt MaryJane”
“Oh, Colorado.”

They really aren’t. The only thing the Feds did was to notify dispensaries that they would be prosecuted if they were within 1000 feet of a school. The real problem with dispensaries is that banks (voluntarily, not under Federal threat) are reluctant to lend to them because they are scared of running afoul of Federal Law. The Feds haven’t said they will prosecute, but the banks are still afraid.

I think it is huge that two states passed this. We’ll probably see a bunch more in two years - California, Oregon, Alaska, Massachusetts, etc. It’s not a good environment for the Feds to be trampling on the will of the states right now.

For some reason I am humming Rockie Mountain Hiiiiiiigh~~

So when does this go into effect?

etc. etc. etc.

I was in Denver once, years ago, and still consider myself a resident. I’ve begun obeying the law.

Dopefest at kayaker’s place! Literally.

I asked the same question in the Elections Forum thread about the same subject, and a Colorado Doper(!) said that the law won’t be in effect until one year from yesterday, although I am not 100% convinced that is actually factual and/or accurate.

Any WA state residents know how long it will be until someone (will it only be for sale to legal WA residents, or to anyone of age?) can walk into a storefront on Denny Way and walk out with a fattie ounce of the ol’ skunky, savage roscoe?

As I said in the ELections forum thread;

Bets that local cops in surrounding states make up every possible excuse to stop out-of-state cars and badger or threaten the occupants into letting them search the car?

Probably be a cottage industry in some places like that town in Texas that keeps busting all the tour buses.
