I have a Colt Government Model (1911) s/n C91xxx. This indicates it is a civilian model made in 1917. A lanyard loop has been cut off from the flat, smooth mainspring housing. I thought I’d heard that lanyard loops on the mainspring housing were not offered after 1916. Given the age of the pistol, it’s possible that the mainspring housing is off of another one. Were lanyard loops offered on civilian 1911s after 1916? (Were they offered at all?)
I’ve found a mainspring housing with the lanyard loop intact. Still curious about the history.
