Comboloio & Conspiracy
Combo*lo"io\ (k[o^]m
b[-o]*l[=o]"y[-o]), n. A Mohammedan rosary, consisting of ninety-nine beads. --Byron. Source: Webster’s Revised Unabridged Dictionary, © 1996, 1998 MICRA, Inc
Numerologists must love this word – the 99 beads fits exactly with count of 99 derived from the letters, viz:
c [3rd letter] 3
- o [15th letter] 15
- m [13th letter] 13
- b [2nd letter] 2
+o 15
+l [12th letter] 12
+o 15
+i [9th letter] 9
+o 15
= 99
After the movie about John Nash, “A Beautiful Mind,” one can hardly see the word “comboloio” and not think “code” or “conspiracy.” Perhaps the alphabet and our settled orthographies are very intentionally arranged, not some evolutionary accidental accumulation. Most likely, to me at least, is that Byron or a friend did come up with a deliberate concoction in spelling and/or creating this word, all just for the fun of it.
Question: Can this be the start of another conspiracy theory?
