Digging into someone’s sex life - or lack thereof - so blatantly is just muckraking, to which I object. If Nader were a priest or a monk, for example, you wouldn’t blink an eye at his status, so why the difference when he’s not?
Because he’s not, and he’s a public figure, and for better of worse, is subject to such talk. Why don’t you Pit everyone who’s started a thread about John Edwards’ affair or Larry Craig’s bathroom hijinx or Bill Clinton’s White House shenanigans? Why is Nader’s sex life more untouchable than those peoples’?
By judging asking people about someone’s sex life - because again “asking people” tends not to be “digging” in my book - you disrespect everyone who believes that a person’s sex life is something that should be known about politicians. I’d be interested to know how it is you can uphold the right to respectful disagreement whilst condemning an particular opinion and needlessly insulting those who hold it.
I disagree with JillGat’s approach, too. But she isn’t a hypocrite.
On this board? Where exactly do you think you are?
Priests and monks take vows of chastity. Politician generally don’t.
Let me tell a little story.
A few weeks ago I went down to the Des Moines Farmer’s Market, which is a pretty bustling and crowded place. I saw a lonely-looking guy with a clipboard in hand, which was pretty amazing in a sea of people. He saw me looking and ran over to me.
He gave me a short spiel about trying to get a “third party candidate” on the ballot, and about democracy and freedom, blah blah blah. Finally I stopped him and I said, “Which candidate?”
“Nader,” he said reluctantly.
Flailing my arms about in an attempt to free myself as soon as possible, I exclaimed “No thank you!” and rushed away.
Despite the thousands of people there, he only had a couple of names. People were actively avoiding the man and his group.
We’ve had eight years of Bush that can very easily be blamed on Nader and his supporters (rightly or wrongly), so Dems hate him for being a spoiler, and Pubbies hate him anyway. Further, I find the man an irritating blowhard and from all reports he seems full of ego and unwilling to compromise.
If you want to vote for him, that’s your right. If you want to not vote at all or write in your own name just to stick it to the Man or whatever, that’s your right. It’s my right to call you an idiot. Welcome to America.
Yannow, the only good thing about the Olympics is that it took the US Presidential elections off’ve the front page of the Australian newspapers for a couple of weeks or so.
Is it November yet???
Methinks there’s a bit of projection going on here on the OP’s behalf.
