Come on England! (Let the chanting begin...)

Although an excellent performance (I haven’t been this impressed since the 4-1 v Holland in the European Championships), I thought Beckham’s penalty was poor.
If the keeper had taken a step the other way…

I thought Ashley Cole had a fantastic game in keeping Ortega quiet…but I seem to be alone…

No you’re not ! I did post that I thought he was Man of the Match (together with Butt …and the referee) not long after the game finished. The mystery for me is why Argentina continued to play Ortega in that position (wide on the right) when he’s so much more dangerous in creative and running positions just behind the forwards.

I thought Ashley Cole dominated Ortgea and the left flank – I lost count of the number of times Ortega had to pass to ‘backward-square’ rather than getting past Cole and either to the edge of the box or to the line for a cross.

It was, but it went in and thats the bit that counts.

Don’t know if the Americans here get a feel for the level of coverage that Beckham gets here in the UK, but his life would have been forfeit if he had missed. All I can say is the balls it took for him to walk up and take that penalty were…incredible.

The difference that one kick made to the rest of his life is immeasurable. After the death threats at the last world cup.

Exorcised a LOT of demons. Gutsy as hell.

Here’s the result. Reckon the Latics could 'ave 'em?

Nope!
