Come on, I'm paying good money for this!

I started my MBA this spring. The first class was more of an orientation than anything else so I gritted my teeth through a lot of the very very basic stuff they dealt with. I am now approaching the end of the second class and things are not gettting any better.

This is supposed to be post grad! I sleepwalked through the first class and 4 pointed it. The class I have now meets for six weeks, four hours per week. Also required were two papers. During the class that the first paper was assigned the prof. spent 15-20 minutes of class time on how to write a paper  This was to be the third paper of the program and he felt the need to go over how to write a paper? That’s not the worst. For 5-10 minutes at the end of class he all but gave a road map to the correct answer.  (All papers are based on analysing business cases) Well I was sort of wicked off by all this and so procrastinated big time. With just a day or so before the paper was due I finally started on it. Just as I started I got hit hard at work and had several things come up at home. I basicly punted the paper. I was still writing it an hour before class. I essentially handed in a rough draft. I didn’t feel too good about it but I figured, “Hey it’s only 25% of the grade. If I get at least a C I will still get a decent average for the calss.”

Well last class I got it back. I got a 4 point on the paper.

Now I know this was not my best work. I just barely covered the requirements of the paper. I even had one rather large technical error in organizing the paper. But I got a 4 point.

I am spending $18,000 for a MASTERS program and it seems to be geared for about a freshman level!

sounds like the Prof is gearing his expectations towards the current reality…namely, college students with barely a grade-school competency.

it sucks for you when you actually ARE at the learning level one would naturally expect. but it probably saves him innumerable ulcers in trying to grade/deal with papers that would only reach pathetic levels of accomplishment otherwise.
