Come see the amazing levitating patio table!!!!!!

Apparently the same gentle wind that barely tinkles my wind chimes is equal to the atmospheric conditions of a minor tornado when applied to my table.

It’s your average normal deck. Low, no rails, west side of the house. Every time the wind is over 10MPH my table takes off. It’s aluminum, glass top, big market umbrella anchored in unbrella base that weighs approx 25 lbs.

Last weekend in a moment of desparation I set out to teach that damn thing a lesson, by god. Here is what I did.

. took 4 cans, like vegetables come in, cleaned, sanded and spray painted them to match table legs.

. secured the cans open side up to deck with 3 nails each

. placed table legs in can, it’s a pretty snug fit
. packed a little sand around leg so there was no room for play

. put strip of duct tape securing can to leg.

. Painted tape to match cans
Ok the damn thing is secure now but it there a better less ghetto-looking solution out there?

I’ve got a pot of flowers next to each leg and it honestly doesn’t look too bad but what does everyone else do?

Well, your current solution indicates that you don’t mind nailing things to the deck and that the position of the table is pretty much fixed, so I would consider unobtrusively screwing an angle bracket to the inside of one or more of the table legs and screwing that to the deck. This would make it harder to move the table inside at the end of the season, although if the table leg is square, you could use a carriage bolt and a wingnut.

You could also drill small holes in the table legs and wire them to the deck, running the wires through the gaps
in the deck.
