I’m astonished you would say that. There have been several nigh-continuously active threads in ATMB with just this sort of activity going on - people requesting sponsorship/help processing their subscription, and people posting their willingness to help. I’ve helped to get three more people signed up in the last 24 hours alone.

If you would like to stay and it’s a matter of funds being tight, then I’ll sponsor you - email me at sunfish9n@netscape.net. If you still have a philosophical objection, then that’s your decision, and I wish you well.

And if you have the moolah but not the means (credit card or PayPal), there are plenty of us jumping up and down yelling “ME!! ME!! I’LL DO IT FOR YA!!!” over in ATMB. sunfish and I aren’t the only ones lending a hand, by any means.

In fact, when I get a chance, I’ll be sending an email to Ed Zotti with a detailed outline of changes I’d recommend to the subscription process designed to make it easier and more attractive for newcomers to subscribe, and to institutionalize a way for members to help out those who lack the means or the means to join up.

Welcome, jbarro! That’s the attitude I have. I’ve been here for over 4 years and as you can see from my post count, I don’t post very often–and when I do, it’s usually either in the Pit or Cafe Society. But I love this community, whether I make a meaningful contribution to it or not, I’m happy to pay.

Usually, this board contains some kind caring people.

But for some reason, as tomorrow deadline approaches, there are a group of us that seem to becoming rather intolerant and darn right snippy.

If I posted a note saying I was leaving the boards because I needed to dedicate time to something, I would expect a bunch of “well, I don’t really know you, but good luck” replies.

But I’m seeing people post goodbyes pertaining to a decision not to send $4.95 to SD, and I see all kinds of nasty little notes.

As one who has run a fee-based site for several years that includes a huge guest section, I have noticed that while most folks are reasonable, there is a certain group who feel you should give them everything you have for free, and listen carefully to their complaints about its lack of quality while you’re at it. My feeling about them has always been, “Good riddance.” They’ll drift from free site to free site forever, like so much pond scum blown about the surface of the Web.
