comedy movies for an 11 year old boy

I was expecting as_u_wish to say The Princess Bride!

You’re probably thinking of Daniel Stern. He was in the first two.

Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure

Well, I loved Charlie Chaplin at that age. YMMV.

I think Michael Richards was in Problem Child, then.

The Bad News Bears
The Gods Must Be Crazy
Pee-wee’s Big Adventure
Return of the Pink Panther
Scrooged
Time Bandits

Once again, I must recommend my all-purpose choice, Joe’s Apartment. There’s no sex, only a little cartoon-type violence and the antics of 50,000,000 singing, dancing cockroaches are sure to please any pre-teenage boy. I also know a Cub Scout den mother who stayed in her hotel room all afternoon while on vacation, completely mesmerized by it.

If you’re looking for something a little more edifying, “A League of Their Own” is pretty good for pre-teens, although some parents dislike a few of the scenes.

The Court Jester, with Danny Kaye (1956)

We really loved Dickie Roberts.
I hear theres a movie with Spade called TommyBoy.
Would that be good? What is it about?
I am so not a movie person,I think I’ve paid to see about 15 movies in my entire life.

How about a comedy/western? Rustlers’ Rhapsody comes to mind, as does Silverado. Though the latter is more of a straight-up western with a few funny lines thrown in.

Typical Spade/Farley buddy movie. Farley plays a lumbering dimwit trying to save the family business and Spade tags along to keep him out of trouble.

vanilla listen to me, and listen close. You seek UHF with Wierd Al Yankovic. It was, when I was 11 or 12, simply the funniest movie on the face of the planet. Perfect clean silly humor for that age I promise you. Here’s the imdb link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098546/

Incidentally I watched the movie years later while in college and it just wasn’t funny anymore. I just briefly skimmed through a couple of the reviews there, but I’m betting that most of the negative ones are from people who saw it for the first time when they were just too old to appreciate it.

Also I’d recommend some of the old Zucker Bros. classics like Airplane I, and II and The Naked Gun movies.

Animal House
(I grew up with National Lampoon and Mad magazines)

I feel I should warn vanilla that Animal House contains some co-ed nudity. Might want to steer clear of that for a few more years.

Jeff’s right, stick with stuff that he might know about, but won’t get him into too racy a thoughts. Naked Gun movies +the Airplane ones are priceless. Also, if he likes mysteries, Murder By Death. Makes fun of so many things it’s hilarious. And he might just start wanting to read an Agatha Christie or two, or Charlie Chan, or whatever, to see what they’re really like.

Also, I did love Star Wars as an 8 year old.

If you’re going older movies don’t forget Abbott and Costello. My friends and I loved the humor of their misunderstandings - we got so into it by 9th grade you’d have sworn we knew people named Who, What, and I Don’t Know. I’m not sure which of their movies are the best, but I know they made some. They are most famous for radio, of course.

Along the lines of funny mysteries, there’s Clue. Not much racy there other than the maid’s slightly jiggling breasts during the opening scenes.

[pet peeve] There is no such movie. [/pet peeve]

Ooops. See, my keyboard was upside down, right? and on top of that, the caps lock must’ve… My mistake.

Make that: Airplane!

Back to the Future, anyone? Comedy, adventure…it’s got it all.

The Man with One Red Shoe

My nephews really liked this one at age 11-ish.

The Dream Team with Michael Keaton and Peter Boyle. My brother’s kids liked it a lot more than I thought they would.

Also, Tremors.

A big favorite of mine when I was that age was The Flim-Flam Man with George C. Scott and Michael Sarrazin.
