I’m putting together a release date order for some Marvel titles, as part of a Christmas present for a buddy of mine. Using the diamond shipping list, and the archives at www.comiclist.com, I’ve been able to go back as far as about '91-'92, but I’d like to go back even farther. Optimally to the 60’s if possible. Specifically, it’s the X-Men titles I’m looking at.
I’ve already found a “read order” guide, but I’d like to be able to give him this as well. Someone mentioned that I might be able to find something on the Deep Web, but no success so far, although I’m not adept at searching there. Anyone know of any sites, or have any suggestions?
Any help is appreciated. Mods, if this belongs in 'tother forum, please feel free to move it.
Okay. I don’t know which reading order you have, but I’d recommend you grab mine here. I believe it’s still the most complete and recent one (although it currently only goes up to House of M.) I also have the order in csv format if you’d prefer that.
Here and here are two database files I created for the X-books back in March. It’s been a while since I’ve looked at them, but they should have everything you need. Looking at it now, it seems that Uncanny X-Men is double listed, but that should affect anything.
The Noblecrayfish list is the one I had as well, although it hadn’t been updated past the original list, which ended somewhere at Uncanny 427. Using a quick scan, I also notice that you have a fair number of differences, which look to me to be more accurate. Nice work. I didn’t catch it on the other forum when you posted it back in August. BTW, I use the name BigHeadWeb over there.
Basically, I’m making him three lists:
Read Order - with your kind permission, I think I’ll give him yours. That way he won’t quit reading midway through The Cross Time Caper…
Publishing Date order - which I pulled from here. Now there was a data entry chore. Wish I had had your list. :smack:
Actual Release Date Order - the one I’m working on. The reason being is I think he might be the kind of person who would like to faithfully recreate the experience of reading them as they were released.
Thanks for the post and thanks especially for the files. Very helpful.
cckerberos : I’m planning to try and make a ‘reading order’ guide for the current DC Crisis mess - any helpful techniques for sewing it all together that you might recommend? Spreadsheets, et cetera?
Wow… I don’t envy you that task. Infinite Crisis is more decentralized than anything I’ve done. I’d recommend using a spreadsheet, making notes next to each issue as to where it seems to take place. I’d also recommend scouring the web to see if there’s any useful resources to use. There are probably a number of other people working on the same problem, so you probably be able to find other people’s thoughts, such as here and here.
I may do that for the times up to about 91’ to 92’, if I’m unable to find the actual ship dates. I’m sure they’re on a database somewhere. It’s just a matter of finding one that I can access. I wonder if Marvel would send me it if I asked nicely…? Anyone from Marvel on the boards? Anyone?
Cliffy, I’ll be over to help with that rock just as soon as I’m done this.
Ahh, thanks for the link. Yeah, I realize it’d be challenging - and with all the other things I’m working on, I may not have time in the near future to do it. Ultimately, I’d like to start with Identity Crisis #1 and put a timeline of DC issues through Infinite Crisis #5.
I doubt it. For one thing, most of the distribution outlets from back then are no longer extant. And I’d be surprised if Marvel keeps track of any of this historically. (I suppose there might be some records pages in Virginia Romita’s old filing cabinets, but who would know?)
