He had a distinctive, attractive, retro-inspired style, that stood out, not only in his mainstream superhero work, but his more indie work as well. And he was knocking it out of the park, right to the end.

I like the plain, flat, simplicity of his drawings. I wouldn’t want all comics to be in this style, but I like it as a variant style. It’s good when the occasional artist is distinct enough to be recognizable. His loss diminished art itself.
