Tickets for this go on sale in two weeks. I would love to get a couple of day passes for my sweetie <maybe 4; the kids are plenty old enough to enjoy it too> but here’s the glitch: they are going to have to be day passes, not whole-weekend passes, and I can’t figure out how to choose which day. There is no programming schedule available, and according to their website there won’t be any schedule available until the month of the Con. :dubious: AND you have to purchase for that particular day; there doesn’t seem to be an ‘Any day’ pass.
How the HELL does one choose which day to go nearly a year in advance?
Does anyone have ANY kind of info, inside or otherwise? The artists so far listed <in general, no set times or days> aren’t anyone I think he’d qualify as ‘Must See’, but…
if I get tickets for Saturday and then Butcher or Gaiman or Firefly crew or Stan Lee show up on Friday, it’s going to seem like a wasted opportunity.
Any suggestions? At this point I would have to just shoot for Saturday and keep my fingers crossed. We live close enough to drive up there and back for the day, but monetary concerns really are going to keep this to just one day’s passes.
You are. It’s a pain, and has never made any sense to me either.
I like Thursday best to peruse merch, and Friday for programming. Joss Whedon does at least some stuff on Friday as well as Saturday, usually. But here’s the thing: it’s so flippin’ huge now that it’s near impossible to see anything MAJOR you want to see unless you commit the entire day to sitting in a room - and get there damn early to get in (like, pre-dawn). Bring a loaded iPod, bring a book, a parasol, some water (lines wrap outside and it’s hot). People just get in those rooms first thing and camp out there. They don’t clear them between panels. Less popular programming is easier to see. Sunday is usually “kids’ day” and much less crowded. Personally, I think any day but Sunday is too crowded for really little kids (I saw one woman with an infant in a CRUSH of people this year - it kind of freaked me out).
To me, it’s worth it just for the spectacle and atmosphere of it all. And the costumes are amazing. Everyone is really polite and nice, too.
Get whatever day(s) this year and while you’re there, buy 4 day passes for 2012.

Is it to go to media panels or is to go to comic panels or explore the floor or people watch?
Because honestly, you often don’t get to do all of it if you are there for one day. And if you want to go to a Media panel like a Firefly thing… that one thing is 1/3 of your day if you take into consideration waiting in line for it (which for those things are about 2ish hours on average.
We always get 4 day passes, even though we usually only attend 2.5 days. You never can tell what will be when until a week before the sucker starts. Friday and Saturday are usually the heavy media days, though. Saturday is when the big guns show up and monopolize Hall H all day.
Captaine, Comic-Con San Diego is the mother of all cons. If it is comics related, or sci-fi, or geeky in the least, you can find it there.
The wife and I attend because we know the second we walk in the doors we are the handsomest, skinniest people in the room!
