Neat-o! How our heroes have fallen!
I’m moving and while sorting through some stuff, I came across one of my comics (most of them are at my mom’s). This one is a “Marvel Spotlight On: Captain Marvel.” (Issue #1 - fair condition, kinda wrinkley).
What I find really neat are two ads inside. Remember the ads that had comic versions of celebrities peddling wares? There’s a full page ad for a Pete Rose Batting Practice toy (looks like a t-ball set of some kind) and on another page, (and with a smidge of irony) is and ad for shoes “just like the kind O.J. wears!”
I’m finding the ads much more interesting than the actual comic. They are both comic book versions set up like TV ads with Pete Rose and O.J. each walking and talking with little dialogue bubbles over their heads.
Is there an online database where I can get a general idea of the value of old comics? I wasn’t really a collector when I was younger and I’m definitely not a collector now (though I’d loathe to part with some of them.)
