Coming out of the music closet (no, not that!)

How about 24 volumes of Rhino’s “Have A Nice Day: Super Hits of the 70s” series.

Also hits collections by various non-cool artists, including ABBA, KC & The Sunshine Band, Lionel Richie, Olivia Newton-John, Cher, Bryan Adams & Motley Crue.

Broadway show tunes, movie soundtracks and Kenny G. Yes I listen to ‘real’ jazz to, I just happen like KG’s particular niche and the calming effect it seems to have had on my rowdy boys when they were quite young and I was trying to wrestle them into bed at the end of a long day.

Milli Vanilli.

There’s a reason all their singles went to the top or near top of the charts. They’re good.

Who cares if Rob and Fab didn’t sing 'em? Most pop music is a feat of engineering anyway.

-Myron

The Electric Light Orchestra

The Association

the Monkees

‘Weird Al’

Almost anything Dr Demento plays

My personal guilty pleasure is Gilbert & Sullivan opera.

I could never understand all of those people who returned their cd’s after the deception was revealed. Huh? The music that they liked enough to buy in the first place was still exactly the same!

I - purposely - downloaded a Gwenyth Paltrow track.

I’m so ashamed.

I really like TV theme songs.

I also still like The Power Station’s first CD.

From years of kitchen work, I have come to love banda music, and corridos. I love it when the singer throws back his head and wails. Aiyiyiyi! I recently read the name for that cry and have forgotten it. And polka music too, but there aint no one plays the accordion like Flaco Jimenez.

I was a full-on disco sucks punker in the 70’s. Now, don’t be messin with my Kool and the Gang. Best house cleanin music there ever was. Get down on it! How you gonna vacuum when you really don’t got no bag? Whoo!

I dig oldies.

No, I don’t mean “classic rock” like a lot of young people are into. I mean effin’ oldies. Corny 1950s kinda stuff.

I didn’t mean to like it. But, ya see, I took a photography class last fall, and the radio in the darkroom at school sucks, and all that would come in was country or oldies, so I chose the lesser of the two evils, thinking, whatever, this is fine for now, I guess, but NEXT time I’ll remember to bring some tapes. Yeah, sure.

That was about eight monthes ago. Now I’ve got two oldies stations preset on my stereo at home. I’m, uh, I’m listening to one right now. ::sob::

Two songs I really enjoy that seem to drive anyone else within hearing distance crazy are:

Teddy Bears Picnic by Bing Crosby
Shrimpboats by Jo Stafford

Roses for Mama by Red Sovine is another one that’ll make 'em scatter.

Download these three off Napster and you’ll have quite an arsenal against roommates and unwanted houseguests…

I love Pasty Cline and I love Don Williams.

The good stuff comes out once the dreck rots away.

ABBA sounds much better without hearing all disco, all the time. (Though I always loved “Dancing Queen”)

John Denver’s “Rocky Mountain High” is pretty poignant now that we can forget all the clowning about that Denver had to do at that time of his career, and when you couldn’t get away from him. I listen to it now and remember that not all of the '70s was terrible (although, God knows, so much of it was).

Can’t really imagine anything too embarassing apart from that.

on my playlist, right between Go Sailor and Juliana Hatfield, i have Hanson’s “Mmmm bop” :o

Nothing to feel guilty about here, everyone knows I am the biggest

B.J. THOMAS fan on the planet.

and no we wont mention how many of his concerts I have attended, lets just say if he’s within a three state area I will be there…
Who doesnt love?
Eyes Of A New York Woman
Rock & Roll Lullaby
Billy & Sue
I Just Cant Help Believin
Raindrops Keep Fallin On My Head
Most Of All
etc.
plus the theme song from the TV show “Growing Pains”
I’ve dragged people to his shows and they leave babbling “Holy Shit! I had no idea he was that good and had that many hits and is still that good!!”

I’ve also never been ashamed to admit to liking any music.
If it’s good music, I love it all.
John Denver
Barry
Debbie G
Abba
They were all great in their own way.
It’ll never happen but I would dearly love to see ABBA get back together…

I usually listed to modern rock and world music but yesterday my wife and I sang along to my Gilbert O’Sullivan tape. I hide it good when any Americans come to visit.

I’m so screamingly embarassed by this.

You know that Lee Greenwood song? “Proud to Be an American”? Dulce et decorum pro patria mori? That one?

I crank it up so loud it makes my mirrors dance and sing to it until my throat hurts.

Cringe.

I also like Guns N’ Roses, and at least two Backstreet Boys songs. I won’t admit how many Bon Jovi CDs I have. I adore Roger Miller and think the sun shines out of Reba’s ass. I play classical piano, too - you’d think I’d have some sense in these matters.

And I love and adore Bruce Springsteen, although he sings like the guy who comes to fix my toilet.

I’ve been thinking about starting a thread just like this for days now. Why? Because…

I bought…

No, I can’t, it’s too horrible…

But if ever there was a place I could speak out about this shameful secret, presumably it would be here…

I bought…

I bought…

I bought…

[sub]A Bonnie Tyler CD. For the song ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart.’[/sub]

Used, but still. I don’t know why I like this song, and I’ve tried to fight it, I really have…for nearly a decade now…and I just crumbled. I caved. It was late at night, I was browsing half.com, the thing was less than $3, and I just bought it.

Oh, I feel so dirty.

I’m going to take a shower now.

[sub]And I’ve listened to it, too. Will the horror never cease?[/sub]

:strolls in singing, “Almost heaven, West Virginia, Blue Ridge Mountains…”:

That’s the first song I ever remember singing to myself when I was a kid. Some of ol’ John’s stuff is great! I love that song about Calypso, and the one about Wyoming skies or some such.

Now, Johnny Cash. My dad had 8-tracks of his and I used to listen to them growing up (I still love his old stuff like “Ring of Fire”)

My embarrassing ones? Well, not many, but…

The Andrews Sisters. Love 'em. I’m a sucker for harmonies and they were great.

Rosemary Clooney and Dinah Shore. Yes, I do have something for 40’s and 50’s singers. :sigh: It’s a curse I guess.

I say it proudly, I am not ashamed: I love Kool and The Gang and Earth, Wind and Fire.

xizor, Neil Diamond! How can anyone not love Neil’s old stuff! Hot August Night is a classic!

It’s okay. There, there. Don’t be so down on yourself.

You see, I have the video on tape!
DAMN YOU MTV2!!!
