The Scrin are awesome. They really got the look of menacing aliens down, and by that I mean they cribbed from every successful sci-fi source. You got the mothership and little spacecraft from ID4, tri-pod-like things from War of the Worlds, and carriers from the Protoss. The Scrin rock.
Lt. Rasczac, Lando, and Sawyer! Holy hemorrhaging of geek icons!
This game is really fast paced. Like, you get the best weapons in 2 minutes. I don’t think there’s even a point to training infantry.
I haven’t had a chance to get into the demo much, but I was immediately turned off by how close it’s zoomed in. I guess I got used to Supreme Commander’s interface.
I’m going to have to try and give C&C3 a chance though; I’m hearing really good things. I especially like what I heard about replays - you can mark them up like a football announcer I think? Sounds like greatness.
And now Billy Dee is guest starring on tonight’s episode of Lost … I wonder if we can link Kane to Kevin Bacon yet.
Oh yeah, game’s pretty fun too. Definitely more fast-paced than previous chapters. I should be through the GDI campaign by the end of tonight, not bad considering I just started yesterday night. What great cutscenes. Well-produced yet totally champy (cheesy + campy). Still waiting for Ironside’s grandiose moment of over-the-top bravado …
I tried building them in a multiplayer match, but my opponent literally steamrolled me with mammoth tanks. I’ve watched about a dozen replays and it seems like everyone skips infantry and just spams medium tanks. I haven’t even seen anyone use aircraft yet.
I guess no one else is playing? I’ll just pretend someone is listening, then.
Seems like medium tank spamming is THE iWin strategy. Although, I did manage to smash one guy who made 50 tanks but forgot to build any AA. Oops. Overall multiplayer seems like typical EA fair, almost identical to Generals and Battle for Middle Earth. Nothing revolutionary, but it sure is fun to make big 'splosions. Oh, the Battlecast thing is pretty cool. I downloaded a “Commentation” video where a guy provided commentary for a replay. You can even draw on the screen like a football commentator. Very neat. I think this is what EA was planning since that BattlefieldTV thing which never came to fruition. I think there’s a way to watch matches live, but lord if I can figure it out. I don’t think it’s working at the moment.
Multiplayer aside, the campaign really shines. The missions are fun and varied, and you get a nice video after every single mission. The cutscenes are campy fun, but I think they could have gone further with it. While Red Alert 2 provided the greatest camp of the century, C&C3 seems like it’s THIS close to taking itself seriously.
More thoughts later if this thread survives the night.
I haven’t played any human multiplayer yet, but in skirmish vs. the AI I’ve had some good luck sending Zone Tropper drop pods at the back of the enemy base just before I launch my frontal assault. If you time it right, they can often take out enough of the enemy power plants to cut power to the base defenses and unit production buildings.
