speaking of creature features and Mexican wrestling movies! Anyone remember Commander USA on the USA network Saturday afternoons? What a piece of work that “host” was! Takes me right back to my mis-spent youth when the boyfriend and I would get totally wrecked and watch those weird movies I haven’t seen before or since, for that matter. Like “Simon King of the Witches” where the hero was a Magician. “I’m not a magician, man, I’m a Magician!” He lived in a storm drain and met clients there and cast love spells for them which required “annointing this handkerchief with the effluvium of love” and the guy would look at him a minute and say, “OK. Do you have any pictures?” And “Vampire Circus” and “Captain Kronos, Vampire Hunter”. God, what a great (though wasted) time we had…we’d sleep it off and wake up in time for “Elvira” at midnight, whom we both just ADORED!
Weirder yet, how about Rhonda whasshername with that overly perky “USA Up! All Night”??

As much as I appreciate Rhonda and her ahem assets, or Gilbert Gottfried and his fabulous brand of insanity, I miss Commander USA. Oh sure, they’re all cheap rip-offs of Ghoulardi, Vampira, Stella, or [insert favorite local monster horror chiller theatre host here], but if you can’t get the real thing, bring on the cheap imitations!
