Comments on mod actions in IMHO

I probably shouldn’t be the one to start this thread, but it seems to me that comments on mod actions in a thread asking about mod actions would be acceptable. Would that not be the case?

A former poster here would occasionally, but often enough to notice, take strong exception to what in his opinion was threadshitting.

So, he’d write an essay about a one-line post telling everybody that the one-line poster was a threadshitter. The ‘threadshitter’ would sometimes return and suggest that the complainant should chill (or at least somebody would suggest it). The complainant would then publish a paper about that post as well. The complainant becomes the culprit.

A post like Frank’s snort, irrespective of its validity in that thread, is gone in 60 seconds. People forget it. It shouldn’t matter. Marley should have kept his powder dry.

Of course, there could be some history.

I note also that Frank himself has addressed the matter here.

There’s a little bit of history. Frank was trying to needle me by referring to a complaint he’d made a few weeks ago, in private, about my modding in other forums. A question about why we do something or “I think you do too much of this” would’ve been organic to the thread, but he was making reference to his own beef there. Like I said, comments on mod performance go here or in the pit, which Frank knows.

Does that clear it up at all?

Well, it clears up the history part.

Thing is, Marley, it’s sometimes better to let a comment slide by you if a response to it risks derailing the thread in the manner previously described. You retain the option to go for Frank if he persists in needling you, either later in that thread or in another one. In so doing, you can tell him what a nice guy you have been in giving him a pass on the first comment.

Whereas you told him to stop crapping up the thread, I fear it is you who will be seen by many as having done it yourself.

C. Guevara, Junior Mod.

Eh. I asked him to leave it be without making an issue of it, and he couldn’t. I don’t feel responsible for that.

A JUNIOR MOD! Ban him immediately!

Yeah, but snort doesn’t screw the thread whereas this does:

If you refrain from that comment the IMHO thread stays level and there’s no need for a pitting. You made it an issue with that post.

That said, it seems the pitting would probably have happened anyway. It’s just been brought forward.

I disagree. If the thread’s toast, which it probably is, I’m sorry about it- but like I said, I didn’t make the situation happen. Letting small stuff slide in general is a good point, though.

I don’t know whether you folks already have one, but some sort of an exit process for former moderators might be a good idea. Some former mods have disappeared for a while or for good. Some have stayed and adjusted well to being ordinary posters.

Having your place on the Boards and its priority in your day change dramatically must be quite a thing. Having a few others who have been through the experience (and coped without departing or finding the place tedious) write it down might help ease the transition.

If you don’t mine just an opinion, I think you overreacted to a single “snort” with your first response. Which is somewhat funny as in the same thread **Frank **overreacted to what I really thought was a very obvious joke. But his overreaction was only to ensure the truth was known and your was a minor slap followed by a nastier than usually (especially for you) Mod Warning.

It honestly looks bad for you.

Jim

It does not look bad to everybody. Frank was taking a shot at how Marley moderates in an IMHO thread and got rightly called on it. Then he kept at it in the thread and got smacked. No problem.
