Commercial drivers, any advice?

I’m currently training to get a Class B Commercial license with a Passenger endorsement. Last Wednesday I passed all four written exams on the first attempt  (Class C because my license was up for renewal, Passenger Endorsement, Air Brakes, and General Knowlege) and currently have a Class B permit. I’m actually really enjoying the learning process- its sort of like learning how to drive all over again only this time I’m a lot more mature, patient, and dilligent about it  .

So any advice any Commercial driver dopers could offer? I know a few people who have done the process before, but that doesn’t mean there might be something someone else can add, or funny anecdotes. In case anyone is curious, I’m doing it to be a bus driver- Paging Mr. Buy Guy…

As I’ve said, the process is a lot more fun than I anticipated. The rules in training are really strict (regarding dress code and being late) but if anything it makes me take the training super-seriously. Plus, you can’t go wrong with being paid to get a license, by taking an 8-hour a day, 5 day a week class.

I believe that patience and tolerance are essential, even moreso when you carrying passengers. Don’t be intimidated by other vehicles, or people. You’ll get into awkward situations and people will honk and stare and you’ll be afraid of looking dumb. Don’t! If you need to get out and look, do it. If you need to just sit there until someone moves, do it. Be safe and courteous and you’re being professional, don’t concern yourself what someone else might think, or say.
