Commercials You Hate, circa March 2010

It’s so funny. I can agree with all the “I have a DVR” smug comments, because I do, but I can also relate with all the people who (like me) watch sports, or the news, or The Price is Right live: “I was devestated! I had to reuse catheters!” and Cancer Centers of America: “My son…!” Your son…what? “It’s just like…coming home!” WTF does that mean?!?)

Of all those though I have to say I hate the already mentioned Geico ads with the deep-voiced announcer: “Is too-tall Jones…TOO TALL!!!” And the one with the spaz mom letting her teenaged daughter gasp go to the mall herself. Like previously stated, I think my mom was dumping me at the mall with my friends as soon as I was old enough to have an allowance!

I don’t watch enough commercials to clearly recall this one, but I’m guessing it’s part of a general PR campaign for rail freight.

Rail freight is expanding, and several new “intermodal” facilities (where stuff is switched from truck to train, or vice-versa) are being built, or scheduled to be built, around the country.

There is some NIMBY opposition to these, because although they reduce overall truck traffic, they increase it in the immediate vicinity of the facility.

Film yourself taking the Activia challenge, seriously? Do they really want videos of people taking a crap? For all their code talk about how it helps your “digestion” we all know they mean it helps you poop.

All the Swiffer commercials anthropomorphizing mops and brooms. Everytime I see the mop with the bowling ball I figure the mop is wondering how well its handle is going to fit in those holes.

I think the Swiffer commercials are funny. I hate the new Zappos commercials with the puppets. They’re creepy.
