What I’m talking about is ‘production’ commercials, as opposed to ‘talking head’ or ‘pitchman’ commercials. Video Professor and the Sham-Wow commercials would be examples of the latter. The way I’m thinking of ‘production’ commercials is that they’re commercials with some sort of a ‘story’, or that they’re ‘set up’. (I know I’m not being clear. I can indicate if a type of commercial is not what I’m asking about, if you want.)
So what ‘production’ commercials do you only need to see once?
My current one is the howstuffworks commercial with the skydivers in the car. I saw it once, and it was like ‘Oh, they’re skydiving in a car and bailing out of it. That’s neat.’ But the second time I saw it I thought, ‘It was good the first time, but how many times do I need to see a falling car?’ (OTOH, the SCUBA cat one doesn’t bother me. Go figure.)
