Common-sensian or Reasonarian? What to name my new religion.

My daughter and I have decided to create a new religion. It will be complete with Holidays and stuff, which is her sole reason for wanting to have a religion.

We don’t know whether we should call it Common Sensians or Reasonarians.

The pro for Common Sensians is that I like how it sounds. Sounds cool to me.
The con is, I googled it and I see at least one use of it, though it isn’t in any religious context.

The pro for Reasonarians is, I googled it and don’t see it.
The con is, It sounds like something to do with the Aryan Nation.

Any other ideas on what we can name our religion? I’m popping my polling cherry on this, so don’t let me down, dopers.

Why not go for Secular Humanism?

MLS, if you suck the fun out of this for me with your common sense and reason, so help me by the gods of my new religion, I will strike you down.

Technically, I’m pretty sure I’m a pantheist. This is kinda for fun. Now vote.

Reasonarian, but pronounced like “car”, not “air”. You can’t have a two-word religion. That goes for you, too, Jehova’s Witnesses. Why do you think we just call them just “Catholics”?

I didn’t even think of pronouncing it that way, Chessic. Good idea.

ETA: Woohoo! I got 5 votes! Reasonarian is winning! I’m so excited.

What the hell, bring back the Cathars. You can change the actual practices and beliefs to anything you want. Just call it “Reformed Catharism.”

It should really annoy the Catholic church which spent so much effort to exterminate them.

Reasonarian. It reminds me of Rosicrucian, which reminds me of old magazines from the 50s where I could have sent in 50 cents or something to learn all about it. I never did, but now with the Internet I can find out for free!

Reasonarian. I’ve heard people attempt to pass off pure bullshit as common sense. Reasoning things out seems to work better.

And if you pronounce it like Chessic Sense suggested, it kind of rhymes with Rastafarian.

Ah. The Pure Bullshittians. An orthadox splinter of the Bullshittians.

How about just “Thoughtism”? For those who favor thought!

Keepitrealfarian has a nice ring to it.

I think keepitrealfarian has too much of a gangsta vibe. And, The Bith Shuffle, I googled ‘thoughtism’ and the term is already in use. Thinkism, too.

Reformed Catharism feels cool, but not original. I’m all about original.

So I think I will go with Reasonarian. Thanks guys.

Cult of Reason. Catchy, and has some history behind it.

The name of the religion, in my humble opinion, should probably end in an -ism, or an -ity, or something like that, with the -ian for the members. That said, reasonarian sounds far better.

Also, be sure to add Festivus to your mid-winter calendar.

What holidays will you be having? I might want to join.

RadicalPi, I think I set it up wrong. I actually meant to ask if the members of my religion should be called Common Sensians or Reasonarians. Which means, that I guess my religion will be Reasonarianism.

Heffalump and Roo, another thread has given me a great idea for holiday celebrations. There’s a thread about how superstitious people are; I’m thinking we can make a party of breaking all sorts of superstitions. We can dance under ladders and smash mirrors. And of course there will be lots of chocolate and presents, because, hey, isn’t that what the holidays should really be about? Getting stuff.

I think you should canonize people who represent Reason. Like Saint Isaac Newton or Saint Voltaire.

One of your holiday traditions could be the Burning of the Straw Man. Like a Wicker Man, but of straw with stupid arguments stuffed inside.

A yearly festival could be The Running of the Trolls. A King Troll is randomly appointed and he cannot be fed for the entire day.

There could be a Ceremony of Snuffing the Flame War in which folks mutually snuff a candle while agreeing to disagree.

Those are great! The Burning of the Straw Manis kind of taken already, though.

Common sense is a double-edged term. In academic writing it most often means common wisdom, ie: not wisdom at all.

A Reasonarian, to my way of thinking, would be a follower not of reason, but of the late journalist Harry Reasoner. And slightly misspelled.

Then, what’s your suggestion, hot shot?
