So, Jon Oliver took over the anthro class from Betty White. Does anybody ever learn anything on that campus? Anthropology never gets any respect. The force-field restraining order was a great visual gag though.
There’s going to be some comparisons between the Glee religion episode and Community’s episode on religion and death. Community wins this round, IMHO. It was snarkier, but also more heartfelt.
More fan service for the boys (and gay females) this time. Did you guys notice Abed’s storyline with the pregnant gal in the background? I almost missed it, it was only when they walked by Jeff in the cafeteria that I started paying attention to it. I need to go back and watch it again.
Best line of the night goes to Jeff again: “If you guys just let me get to the can opener, I can feed you.”
Huh…I didn’t notice the pregnant gal 'til I saw her giving birth in the background behind Shirley. Thought that was completely random… I was streets behind there.
Opening scene. Group in in library and you can see Abed out in the hallway with his hands on a very pregnant belly
Cafeteria scene. Abed and pregnant lady in the background. Lady is in distress. Abed starts leading her outside. Walks from the background right past the table with main actors.
Outside. I can’t remember when exactly. Maybe after the fight. In the background you see a station wagon with the tailgate flipped down. The pregnant lady is leaning back and Abed is delivering the baby.
That was great. And I totally missed the entire Abed subplot until I read the discussion at Hulu just now.
My only complaint was this: I love her but Betty White is not adding anything to this show. She needs to be gone. Now. She stole what could have been another fine Troy/Abed final moment.
When Shirley asks Abed what he was up to this episode, we see a close-up shot of him with the family (Dad/Mom/Baby) standing farther away in the background.
Abed first encounters pregnant lady outside the group-study room. She seems mad. Abed puts his head on her belly.
Annie’s first flirty-fundraising scene shows Abed getting in to a fight with the father.
(The father starts it by knocking the books out of Abed’s hands, then chases him aroun)
Second Classroom scene(lava-lamp): Abed is reading a Pregnancy pamphlet.
2nd Cafeteria scene(“Hello Billionaire Boys club”): Abed is sitting with pregnant lady and husband. She goes into labor and they leave together (And a little later a busboy is cleaning up that table)
Abed delivering the baby over Shirley shoulder as noted above.
And the family behind Shirley as above also.
I also liked the Betty White tag talking about Inception.
And last but not least, Pierce’s mom’s music is Donald Glover’s music. (Not sure which track)
Please don’t get me wrong: I hope Betty White lives in health and happiness for many more years, she’s a comic legend and all that, BUT…
Betty White cameos have officially ceased to be in-and-of-themselves amusing. I’m calling it: time of death- NOW. Let’s let her make an occasional appearance and it will mean much more than having her show up in everything from porn films to Holocaust documentaries to Mexican cockfighting championships.
An average Community episode, but streets ahead of anything else on TV. Very disappointed in the Betty White closing. She can barely act, the joke is over. Move on. Nothing so far this season at the same level as the Halloween/Goodfellas/Pool episodes.
I just barely caught the shot with Abed and the pregnant woman outside the study room. Had to rewind and watch again to make sure that was what I was really seeing. Same again in the cafeteria. But then I finally caught on it was going to be running gag. Nice touch.
I keep noticing how the hallway scenes are frequently a mess. The same background characters shown repeatedly passing by, etc. In this episode, when Jeff and the “cats” are in the hallway, they turn the same corner twice in a row when Shirley is talking. (Plus other errors in hallway continuity.) Is this deliberate or are they just incredibly lazy?
I don’t think hallway continuity is simply a high priority, nor should it be. The last thing I want is for them to hire another 40 extras and 2 continuity assistants, then get cancelled for being overbudget.
Well, to be fair, if they expect us to catch and appreciate a running gag in the background, they’d better make sure that the rest of the background makes sense as well.
You know what? I’m not at all a lech, generally – in fact I’ve been called a prude at least once – but Annie does have some nice (um) boobs. Maybe they could get a spinoff?
