:smack: That’s who that was! I wasn’t used to seeing him without his suit (and with the weird little soulpatch).
I’ll be surprised if it even gets a third season, much less a fourth.
Is it really tanking in the ratings? Dammit, why do all my favorite sitcoms get dumped?
Well, at least if it’s not renewed there’s a natural ending point built into the show; community colleges are usually 2 year schools.
They’ve already said they’re on 4-year plans.
I love that they discussed Farscape.
Seems like most shows go to Battlestar when they want to show that a character is nerdy nowadays. Nice to see Farscape mentioned.
Community isn’t getting horrible ratings. Its biggest problem is that it’s up against Big Bang Theory, which shares a lot of the same audience. But it’s still holding on to about 5 million viewers, which isn’t chump change for NBC. Given its low production costs, I’d have to think it’s at least even money to be renewed next year. After all, it got a second order of episodes for this season when its ratings were no better, and 30 Rock kept getting renewed despite having worse ratings and I’m sure a much more expensive cast and production cost.
Probably the thing that will make or break the show is simply whether NBC thinks they have something better to replace it. If they decide to scrap their comedy Thursdays, or shift back to hour long scripted shows, or something like that.
They aren’t scrapping their comedy Thursdays, in fact the opposite. They’re adding two new comedies to the 10pm and 10:30pm slots to run a solid block of 6 sitcoms in a row.
I predict doom and gloom for Community because American Idol is moving to Thursday nights.
Great episode. Donald Glover should be required to take his shirt off for every episode though.
I finally caught this episode yesterday night on demand. Unlike the zombie episode or the KFC episode, this episode was very relatable. Maybe even a little bit too much for me. I was cringing in sympathy as half of the crew were brought down low through the episode (Britta and Jeff don’t have enough self-awareness for that). The realization that someone who was nice to you wanted something more, the callousness of your friends, and all the insecurity and self-doubt about your current life that bubbles to the surface when you try to shake things up a little bit. It fleshed out the characters in a good way without sacrificing too much humor. It’s episodes like this juxtaposed with episodes like Modern Warfare that makes Community something really special.
“Nobody likes a tattletale, Abed.”
I really liked it. It was different, but that’s not a bad thing.
I call total BS on Stargate being better than Farscape.
I was unhappy at how Troy, Jeff, and Britta were laughing at Shirley. They were being dicks. I also liked Abed reminding Jeff and Britta that he’s not a coat rack.
were they? i thought they were being rather reasonable about it. i know my friends would be a lot harsher about an unflattering picture of me. plus they didn’t even know the context of the picture. they didn’t know she was “in a dark time” of her life. they gave the pictures up rather easily and in fact… i think both parties acted rather appropriately. it’ll get sorted out on monday (thursday).
They were being dicks, but not irredeemably so, IMO. Friends can cross a line when it comes to teasing a member of their group, especially when everyone is drinking. Troy made a good point that it’s only funny if Shirley was laughing along with them. When they saw that she couldn’t see the humor in it, it kind of killed their mood as well. Some people can handle these kind of teasing, some people can’t, and the reactions of everyone involved were absolutely pitch-perfect. Britta and Jeff are the kind of drunk jerks who would laugh at a friend’s embarrassing picture and Troy’s the type who would follow their lead.
I think there was also a slight jab from Britta about how this “makes them like [her] more” because she wasn’t so righteous. I thought that line illustrated the insecurities of both Britta and Shirley perfectly. Britta tries to mollify her horror in her tone-deaf way and only feeds into Shirley’s feelings of shame and anger.
I thought they were way too nice to that sanctimonious, holier-than-thou cunt. Shirley deserves far worse, many times over.
