Oh – and they finally have an actual opening sequence!
That may have been the best one-note/joke show of all time.
Senor Chang has a tiger-striped customized paintball rifle. Perfect.
Absolutely the best episode so far. After the last couple of episodes I was waiting for disappointment but it just keeps getting better.
The best part was Jeff being cynical enough to pull the clip out of Britta’s gun while they were hooking up.
not to derail an OP of a fantastic show, but i know the Critic was originally cancelled by ABC, but it was subsequently cancelled by Fox. I really liked The Critic.
addendum: best part was the fake kissing laaaaaaaaaa that brita and jeff do before actually making out.
That episode was truly inspired. This show has become my new favorite show, and that episode only cemented it.
One question - the first guy that Jeff meets was clearly a reference to something, and it was vaguely familiar - something with a guy with an eye patch and a bad accent. Did anyone catch that one?
“Ah, Hans, no paintballs!” So awesome.
I am going to agree with you with two minor exceptions- the Buffy and How I Met your Mother musicals.
Yes Buffy is not a sitcom
They’ve had that opening sequence from the beginning of the season, but sometimes they cut it down–I’m assuming to give a few more seconds to the show.
I thought the episode was really great. It would have been my favorite of the year, but the chicken strips episode still holds that place. I’m really happy it’s going to be back next year. It’s definitely the high light of Thursday night for me now.
I find your lack of faith disturbing!
I had so much fun watching this episode though. Best part was when Brita and Senor Cheng shot and I thought, “it would be great if the bullets hit each other.” And, sure enough, they did.
We don’t normally watch Community, and after catching last night’s episode, I’m wondering why. I loved all the references and comments on other shows and movies (and I especially liked all the Glee club members calling in harmony then falling out of the tree when they got shot).
ETA: I thought it was a dream sequence, too.
Biggest surprise of the night - since when do tall, lanky comedians have a body like THAT under their clothes?
Absolutely beautiful show. The post-paintocalypse was amazing to behold. I was sure that it was going to end with the college being shut down for the summer just to clean up the unholy mess.
Anyone want to try to spot the specific references?
What was the scene of Senor Chang entering in slow motion with his customized paintball gun in reference to?
I think the scene of Jeff charging into the Dean’s office was from The Condemned.
When they were jocks in college:
And Diogenes, I think that was a John Woo reference, but I’m not sure of the specific movie. Someone on the Onion AV Club referred to Senor Chang in that scene as Chow Yun-Chang.
Every John Woo film ever made, minus the doves.
Funniest lines to me were:
“Chess club!” … “He’s a pawn!” … “Checkmate, bitch!”
Shirley: “I’m going home, Britta.” … “No seriously, I’m going home. Can you help me up?”
Then the capper was Chang’s impression of Chow Yun-Fat, entering with that Mandarin singing in the background. Laugh out loud funny!
The AV Club rundown of the episode also mentioned that the roller derby team was a reference to the movie The Warriors (which I think I’ve never seen).
I thought the whole Senor Chang moment was from Scarface, but I don’t really know.
I am finding it hard to pinpoint my favorite moment. The whole thing was awesome.
I did love Jeff’s Die Hard moment at the end, including the model of the Human Being getting shot up in the Dean’s office, oh and the fact the the whole “prize” was priority registration. The whole thing was great.
“I can schedule all of my classes on Monday and have a six day weekend!”
I thought of another great line during lunch.
Troy: I’m a not a representative; I’m a gladiator.
