Community, March 22, 2012 - Contemporary Impressionists

Tonight’s episode rocked!!!

A mobster French Stewart, Troy and Britta as before and after Michael Jackson, Jeff going berserk, and a lot more. And then there was the ending. It was awesome, but I’m worried about it.

As we all know Community has been having ratings problems. Plots like evil Abed trying to get into our timeline is probably something that’s only going to appeal to established fans of the show, like us. I’m worried new viewers might find it too complicated. Kind of like Fringe gets low ratings partially because viewers find it too complicated. I hope I’m wrong though.

Six seasons and a movie!

That may have been just a little too random and bizarre for me. Plenty of good moments, but lots of darkness.

And I think I’m coming down on the side of really not caring for where they’ve gone with Chang.
Did they air the episodes of out of order? Shirley wasn’t wearing a wedding ring.

You didn’t laugh when he was making that face at the dean?

I don’t know, but I was confused at the beginning when they mentioned new years. At first I thought I was watching a rerun.

Yeah, I was thrown for a loop with the weird, “Hey, everybody, welcome back!” opening. I thought the whole show was a little scattered and I didn’t think either the Britta/Jeff or Abed/Troy come to jesus talks were super motivated. At least, I didn’t buy Jeff’s reaction to hulking out or the car conversation. I actually would have really liked to see Troy and Abed grow up a little but I feel like their convo took a left turn into meaningless dramatic lines.

Annie’s reaction to Jeff’s shirt ripping hulk was great.

And what were all the names on Chang’s ‘medals’? Faith, Charity?

I don’t remember.

When French Stewart’s character and Pierce were mentioning who Pierce could be, did either one say Chevy Chase? Or just Marlin Brando and Burt Reynolds?

I liked the Dean’s reaction (or overreaction) to seeing Jeff in aviator sunglasses.

Loved Abed playing out The Fugitive at the beginning.

I cracked up when French Stewart referred to Troy and Britta as “both versions of Michael Jackson.”

Shirley’s Oprah impersonation was great!

I wonder where they’re going with the Evil Abed thing? This show is so weird–I love it.

Will they have time to deal with evil Abed if they don’t get a season 4?

I had laughs in the episode, but that wasn’t one of them.

I liked the more subtle things, like Shirley gushing about how her children were Jesus, Mary, and Joseph in the Christmas play and adding that she was the casting director.

I thought that was a great line, too.

Who were the impersonators in Troy and Abed’s apartment at the end? I know Patch Adams, Tom Cruise, and Julia Roberts, but I couldn’t figure out the other two.

And who else thought Britta as Michael Jackson was super hot? Anyone?

Woody Allen from Annie Hall (lobsters) and (apparently) Rutger Hauer as Roy Batty.

I loved the meta-comment during the Evil Abed scene about how inaccessible and dark things were getting.

Funnier was Chang’s “…until I rise up against you” comment under his breath.

Episode needed more of Annie’s boobs.

Plus her comment that Abed would owe more and more money and hit rock bottom, then have a come-to-Jesus moment, and that’s the way things should play out.

I’m going to have to watch it again. My husband stayed home from band practice because he didn’t feel good and so I was distracted. I usually have uninterrupted Community time. I’m not complaining, mind you. Not really. I mean, I’m sorry he didn’t feel good. That’s what I’m trying to say.

Better than last weeks!

I liked Chang in this one.

I think my problem with what has happened with Chang is that while everybody else is a caricature of a personality type, they are just big versions of real people. Chang doesn’t seem to be an extension of anything real.

I just don’t find anything he does particularly funny any more. I’m hoping he’s the one who dies and they bring back John Oliver a lot more.

I was probably more excited than I should have been to see Blake from “Workaholics” as the doorman at the party.

Yep. Same here
