Compactflash cards

I recently bought a digital camera that uses a Compactflash card for storing pictures. It came with an 8MB card, and I was just wondering if I could buy a higher storage capacity card (say, 32MB) and use it in the camera, allowing me to take more pictures.

Note: I know it’s not a type II slot, so using that IBM Microdrive thing is out of the question.

I have two Nikon digital cameras. One came with a 8 Meg and the other came with a 16 Meg card. I use all card sizes from 8 Meg to 128 Meg in both cameras (8, 16, 48,64 and 128).

CF cards have the advantage over SmartMedia in that the controller is in the card rather than in the camera. In practical terms this means that any CF card can be used in any camera using CF cards. Allowing for the Type I and Type II differences in physical thickness of course.

There may be some exceptions in the very large sizes. I say this because I have heard, but not confirmed, that the Nikon CP995, my new camera, cannot use the 256 Meg CF cards unless they are the Lexar 8X cards.

Is this a new camera? What does the manual say?
