Companies that get it right

Amazon.com gets another vote from me. Love 'em.

And RepairClinic.com is awesome.

Jet Blue. They’re on-time, courteous, and cheap. Not to mention clean (I said on-time, didn’t I?).

Klipsch.

My Pro Media 5.1’s died after 7 months of use. Klipsch sent me a voucher for return shipping and has promised me brand new redesigned 2003 models (mine are 2001’s) plus a new extended 2 year warranty (original warranty is 1 year). It is rare these days to not have a product replaced with a refurbished model.

Hats off to Klipsch!

Hastings Books, Music, Video.

I am not sure if they still do this but they used to be more than happy to replace an opened music CD for any reason. I have on many occasions returned an opened CD with an explanation that of “this band really sucks”. They would cheerfully offer me a refund or different CD. In my opinion this worked in their favor because I never had to worry about buying a CD that I was unsure about. In the end I purchased dozens of CD’s that I never would have taken a chance on otherwise.

Three for me:

Trader Joe’s: Good stuff, good prices, quirky charm. Heaven for health and price conscious foodies.

Rubio’s: Fast food with flavor and named vegetables. I can take myself and the kids for a treat without feeling guilty.

My Pediatrician’s office: Saturday morning office hours. Quick response even to dorky new parent calls late at night. Saturday morning office hours. Everyone in the practice is great. Saturday morning office hours.

Oh, my God, you actually have a doctor that has Saturday morning office hours???

[sub]does he take Blue Cross???[/sub]

Mon Valley, actually. Born in McKeesport, raised in the Finleyville area. My folks live in Clairton now.

With Downtown, Oakland, Shadyside and Squirrel Hill being so multi-culti and trendy now, you have to go to the old mill towns on the periphery to see how Pittsburgh used to be. This is, at best, a mixed blessing.

Thanks! I was popping in to give props to Amazon. I figured if someone liked Amazon, I would check out what else they liked. Using the repair link already.

Make that votes for both.

Samsung - I have a cell phone that was practically submerged for several hours in river water*. When I discovered this I immediately turned the phone on and the display was. . . interesting, to say the least. I know, I know take the battery off, let it dry, blah blah. I’m impatient. Every 30 minutes I would try again. I eventually gave up after absolutely nothing happened after hitting the on button.

The next afternoon I tried again. It popped right up and and I haven’t had a problem with it since. I tried to send them an email but I couldn’t find a link on their website.

State Farm Insurance. - They rock.

Papa Johns - They take my checks even when I’m so drunk I can’t spell properly.

Ingles grocery stores. Bilo Bonus card prices without the bonus card.

Dell - My laptop has been my faithful companion for 3 years despite being dropped in a parking lot sans case, crumbs and gravy.

Sony - What does Sony make that sucks? Nothing.

Best Buy - Where I buy all my Sony stuff. Circuit City sucks.

Sodexho - Odds are you haven’t heard of them but they provide the food where I work. Awesome.

Brooks Brothers - Yeah, they’re expensive but damn if it doesn’t fit just right.

I’ll stop now.
*Not that it’s any worse than tap, maybe stinkier.

Anime Nation.

Unbelieveable customer service. My back order was bumped up a level and I got emails apologizing for the delay (non-automated) and updates on the status every week. PLUS the back order actually came in for books out of print from Japan!

I have to disagree with this, but only because I have dealt with Sodexho in a college setting…their food quality for residence meal plans is horrendous. Though they do turn a tidy profit if you’re looking at it from the college administrator point of view.

I’ve got to give props to L.L. Bean, Bass shoes, Honda, Sony, Cracker Barrel restaurants and stores, as well as Squaresoft, Microprose, and Blizzard software companies.

Krispy Kreme

Steak 'N Shake

The local Hastings SUCKS however.

I just want to continue to spout enthusiasm for NewEgg. I just picked up a new hard drive and keyboard from em 2 days ago, if that. It got here today and is sitting at my mailbox now. That’s California-Atlanta in 2 days and that’s WITH the free, cheap Fedex shipping. I imagine if I’d had it overnighted, it would’ve arrived before I ordered it.

Gotta give a thumbs down on Waffle House. The Waffle House of my youth (Conyers Ga, 28 odd years ago) was good cheap food. The Waffle House of my newfound parenthood (today, Denver Colorado) is Overpriced with a crappy payment policy. (Cash cash, cash, no checks, no credit cards, but there’s an independent ATM right behind you that’ll gladly give you a $20 and it’ll only cost you $23 after fees.)

It was BREAKFAST, when did BREAKFAST start costing the better part of a $20 for two peopl?

So I’m not such a fuddy duddy, Chipotle rocks, as does gmpartsdirect.com (got a GM partnumber? you can’t buy it cheaper anywhere else)

NAPA is da bomb too. (Do people still say that?)

There are exceptions in the Waffle House chain. I went to one in Jacksonville, FL where the food had NONE of the normal Waffle House redeeming qualities, namely, Plentiful, Tasty, and Cheap. Servings were scant, everything was overcooked or undercooked, and the prices were outrageous because it was ALL à la carte.

But that being said, I’ve had pecan waffles in at least 75 other Waffle Houses and they all ROCK!

“Brooks Brothers - Yeah, they’re expensive but damn if it doesn’t fit just right”

Preach it. It fits right, looks right, and is made right. Luckily, there’s an outlet about 30 minutes from my house.

Yea, Waffle House varies, but I think I read somewhere that it was a franchise, so that might explain it. But everyone I’ve been in has been good. Georgia, though, seems to have an incredible concentration of Waffle Houses. I can think of about 10 within a 10 minute drive of here, including the one right by my house.

Maybe Waffle House is affected by the Law of Denny’s? (Chris from Family Guy first articulated this: "…and TWO Denny’s, so we can say, ‘Let’s not go to THAT Denny’s, let’s go to the GOOD one’) Denny’s comes in pairs, you see, a good one and a bad one.

Yeah Bruce_Daddy, I gotta agree, if you have the dough Brooks Brothers makes some really nice stuff.

Lee Valley Tools! A great place, with all sorts of woodworking and gardening tools, and woodworking hardware.

Not your normal hardware store, they carry mostly high-quality hand tools, including exotic stuff like Japanese traditional tools, and traditional/old-fashioned tools such as every tool (or reference book) you would ever need to build a log cabin, or a complete line of wood-bodied planes. Also a variety of quality inexpensive tools and a surprising amount of unusual stuff that the owner just thought his customers would like. Friendly and helpful staff and a strong commitment to quality and to customer satisfaction. I drool over their annual catalogue and monthly updates. A great place for gifts.
