I am interested on finding the weight difference between Lexan and safety glass. Does anyone have a formula for the sq. ft. of each?
I was able to compare the weight of 1/4 inch Lexan to 3 mm Safety glass. Not exactly the same thickness, but hopefully close enough.
1/4 Lexan = 1.56 lbs/sf
3 mm Safety Glass = 2.99 lbs/sf
So the difference is 1.43 lbs/sf
Safety glass is almost exactly twice the density of lexan, so given the same thickness it will twice as heavy per square foot.
I don’t know how to reconcile that with dolphinboy’s answer: since 1/4 inch is about 6 mm I’d expect a 3mm sheet of glass to be the same weight as 6mm sheet of plastic.

Changed thread title from “On a serious note” to “Comparative weight: Lexan vs. safety glass.”
scorpio5169, please make your thread titles more descriptive so people know what they’re about without opening them. Thanks!

I have no info of my own, but this link seems to be consistent with Lexan being about half the weight.
I will try to get better at posting. I’m still kind of new. I appreciate the answers that I have seen. The information might help us create a better world… Hopefully.
