I’m looking for a list or book about gangs throughout the world, one that would list maybe 500-1,000 of the biggest, fastest growing, and most heavily armed as of today. I’ve checked amazon, infoplease, and the FBI website, with no luck. I don’t want a book that explains the psychology and forming of gangs, or how America should fight them- I just want an encyclopedia that gives a history, numbers, weapons, etc. Wikipedia has info on some gangs, but nothing like this.
I understand that the definition of a gang is loose (you could include motorcycle gangs and the mafias along with the urban ones that we most often think of), that information on them is not solid or scientific but just estimates, and that finding an unsentimental writing on this subject might be hard- but if you know of something like this description, that’s terrific.
Here’s a start, but it only seems to apply to the L.A. area though. Here’s
another, but it seems to be somewhat generalized at first look.
But I think you are right, in that the definition of “gang” is so loose, that it would preclude a definitive list.
