Computer annoyance: VTruck.exe

I have searched far and wide for a fix to the following problem and have found no solutions that have worked for me. I figure straightdope can help me out.

whenever i restart my coputer i get a message box reading “Please insert your CDROM with the Virrtual Truck program. Looking for file: D:VTruck.exe”

Oh and if it helps, i have windows XP. Thanks

It’s not a system file; sounds more like a game or something.

Go into “Control Panel” “Add/Remove Programs” and see if Virtual Truck is listed, then delete it.

You also might download and run Ad Aware to see if it catches anything.

VTruck is part of an installation routine used by some cable ISPs. You can find information on removing the error here.

Hope this helps.

tanstaafl:

Checked the link out - it’s ok, and here is the method they describe to fix the issue:

However, I myself would do it a different, more permanent way(esp. with WinXP):

  1. Search for Win.ini (usually in the C:\Windows folder. You may have to set your system to show all files and not hide system files).
  2. Double-click on it - it will open in Notepad by default
  3. put a ; at the beginning of the run= line that has the reboot.exe reference in it, or delete the line altogether.
  4. Close the file. Say “yes” when it asks if you want to save changes.

Problem fixed

RealityChuck, i have tried goin to the control panel and looking for the program, it isnt there. This is practically the same thing that the link tanstaafl gave me, told me to do.

critter42, i do not have [windows] block thing to expand; thus, i am not able to uncheck run= involving \vtagent\reboot.exe

thanks for your effort though.

critter42, i found another way to disable the vtagent reboot process

thanks
